How Old Were You When The Parents Kicked The Stroller To The Curb

Excuse me??? What kind of comment is this?? Why is a 35 lb 6 year old an extreme example? You made this thread ugly. If a 6 year old ( who actually is a CHILD) gets tired from walking miles in Disney wants to be carried at the end of the day, etc...is this an extreme situation? I see adults who are beyond worn out when they are walking around in 95 degree heat no matter how many "breaks" People need to stop being so judgmental on this forum and let people be...I am on vacation and I can give a hoot about who likes it if my 6 year old is in a stroller....and by the way...you never saw parents leaving the park at night carrying a sleeping kid???? 6 years old is a CHILD!

No. I agree with the comment you commented about. 6 in a stroller. Gimme a break.

After a day WALKINGat Epcot, my 3 nearly 4 yr old (at the time) DD decided walking to the room was just too far. She didn't get a look in when it came to getting a stroller, she finally won the Carry me dad Vs walk debate by falling asleep in Fultons at Riverside !
At this point I decided it was better to finally give in than to leave her there!

She only used a stroller part time as a 2 almost 3yr old. So long as you go at their pace, they can keep up no problem. Putting lazy kids in strollers is simply parents that can't be bothered parenting and want the stroller as a child minder, so they know where their kids are.

This first time we took DS to Disney he was 4 year old.. No stroller for us! I knew the hassle it would be! We took our time..yes we carried him around sometimes cuz he was tired. He was just fine..no breakdowns, tantrums..nothing.... This was no need rushing around to the big rides, he couldnt ride them anyway....Lots of Character pics, autographs, and shows....had a blast!

4-5 years old. It doesn't make sense past that and it's just plain lazy. America has an obesity epidemic for reasons like parents pushing 10 year olds around all day, then wondering why the kids can't sleep. lol. Let them walk and sleep soundly like the rest of us. :)

So if the kid isn't fat would it be ok! Don't stereotype American obesity with parents at WDW. I would tend to blame the obesity problem more on fast food and video games. Go ahead and throw the computer in there as well. Yes, a 10 yr old is to old to be in a stroller, and some parents abuse the poor strollers of America.

To be fair in my previous comment I didn't mention that we just came back with my daughter who was two and a half. We took her stroller however the majority of time she actually wanted to walk and often wanted out.

Also what we tend to do is to park our stroller at stroller parking and go for a walk around that certain section (i.e. Imagination to Nemo) rather than 'needlessly' bring the stroller throughout the park.

Unless the child does have a medical condition it's pretty crazy when you see 9 and above in strollers. When I was young my parents pushed us so that we were constantly exhausted.

We don't take this approach with our daughters. We take regular breaks and even come out of the parks in the afternoon. That way our kids aren't always exhausted.

Exactly!

The same reason they pack those strollers like conestoga wagons heading across the plains. If their kid gets bored...at Disney of all places...they just dig around for the PSP, the cookies, GameBoy, cellular, juice box, toy bag, etc...

I totally agree with your statement. Except for the juice box part. I don't think it's a crime for a parent to pack a drink for a child of any size. Let alone pack one for an adult.

The worst part is when a parent lugs one of those overstuffed strollers on to the bus.

My parents stopped around 4 because when I was 5 I remember walking all over. I was ok with that.

I did see however this tall 7 or 8 year old the other day in a stroller. I was like "that one should be walking....." His feet were touching the ground lol.

For me, its a little different, I have a slight disability (cerebral palsy to the right side) and didn't learn to walk until I was 3, at which point I had a brace on my leg. To keep up with my sisters, I know I was in a stroller for a little longer than most. Developmentally, I was also 3 yrs behind, so at 6 I was the size of a 3 yr old.

That being said, I know the moment my brace came off my leg and I was able to walk unassisted they stopped using the stroller. I think this was around 7ish and when we went to Disney for the first time, I know I walked with the rest of them, despite my limp. Though I admit to being given a piggyback ride or two.

Growing up, not being able to walk all the time, I always hated how people took that for granted. I know so many of the kids that I would go to school with who would have traded their 'strollers' with the kids who could walk any day.

I now have a 2 and a half year old. And while we do use the stroller I have no plans on letting him stay in there for years to come. And hope that by the time he is 5 he will be walking with the rest of us.

*I did not by any means, mean to go off on a rant*

Up to age 5 we used the stroller in Disney. After that my DS walked and we really had no problems. I was surprised actually! I didn't think his little legs would last with my commando park approach! :ROFLOL:

My twin brother and I were 5 on our first trip, and we didn't use a stroller. I remember a lot from that trip, and we would stop frequently, enjoy ice cream or another snack, and talk about what we were going to do next.

Back then (1986), it wasn't as easy to go back to a Disney resort and take a nap and a dip in the pool, so that was how we got through the day. I remember my mom saying that we were all tired...but that includes the kids and the adults :)

I think that, just like other threads that can get a little brutal, there are people who take advantage, and those whose kids just need a little extra rest. I admit to rolling my eyes when I see a 10-year old kid in a stroller; however, that's still your right and I roll my eyes at everyone anyway

That being said...

Those who do elect to use strollers, please have the folded up by the time you go to get on the bus (don't wait until you're next, then scoop out your child, then fold it...all while people are waiting), please park them in designated areas, and please have respect and pay attention when walking closely behind someone...my family and I have had more heel and ankle injuries from people mowing us down than I care to remember. If you're too busy to watch where you're walking with the stroller, then maybe you shouldn't rent or bring one.

WOW! I am always amazed at how mean people can get on this forum. We all have our opinions, but there is no reason to call children (that you don't even know) riding in strollers LAZY. The "lazy children" don't purchase, rent, or bring the strollers....the parents do. Some children may not even want to be in those strollers, but the parents prefer them to ride because it is quicker. We don't know the reason - so why be so mean?? Even if we did, how is it the kid's fault? I think our own vacations would be a lot more enjoyable if we didn't worry so much about what everyone else's families are doing. As long as people are being courteous, not running over each other, and have the strollers ready before the bus gets there - are they really hurting anyone? It's certainly not enough of a reason to be so mean.

Because passing uninformed judgments is easy....

Or perhaps lazy, depending on how you look at it.

Sorry but once your kid is in pre-school/kindergarten, its time to walk. If your child is tired take a break and rest or go back to the hotel for a nap/swim. There's no reason you should be dragging your kid around the parks from sun up to sun down. Common sense...

I was never a stroller baby. I walked instead of crawled or people would carry me. My brother unfortunately got the full brunt of my mother's style and stayed in a stroller past the age of seven - he had no toys and quietly sat in it while she shopped or did whatever. She had no crayons and coloring books for him or books of any kind so he stayed in the cheapest umbrella stroller with a fabric back and seat like a beach chair with no lumbar support A LOT. I think he deserves to win the lottery for all that he went through because of her.

My thoughts EXACTLY...just because I said my 6 year old will probably use a stroller, ignorant, rude people decided to "attack" my parenting skills and my child. I mean for real.....just because everyone is DIFFERENT and may use a stroller because of their own PERSONAL reasons..why in the world is that anyone's business or concern? Are people on vacations that cost sometimes thousands of dollars really care who is and isn't in a stroller? And as someone posted that I am one of THOSE kinds of parents???I mean how ignorant, mean and disgusting are those people? I especially like the ones who obnoxiously say to "take breaks"..who are YOU?? The original poster did NOT want these kinds of comments...I think they only wanted ideas...get a life people on this forum, because if this is any indication of the kind of visitors the "most magical place on Earth" gets, then I might start to vacation elsewhere...who wants to share space with these "small minded" pathetic people?

Totally agree, both of our boys were out of the strollers once they were in kindergarten. Granted, the heat and distance can be a trying at times but rest stops, and naps recharged their battery's. Capture the Magic!

I really have never understood the "IF YOUR KID IS PAST THE AGE OF 4 AND IN A STROLLER THAT MAKES HIM/HER LAZY AND YOU A LAZY PARENT" argument.

Isn't vacation all about enjoyment and exceptions to the rule????:shrug::shrug:

I mean, I can understand if everyone was all up in arms about me putting my children (both over the age of 4) into a stroller every. single. time. I got them out of the car to go into the store, into the gas station, into the restaurant and never letting their feet touch the ground (a la Wall-E) or something.

But something I let them do 1 or 2 weeks a year?????????????????? What?????????:shrug::shrug:

My children are also old enough to make their own beds and my oldest to vacuum his room. Should I similarly deny him access to Mousekeeping to keep him from becoming "LAZY" on vacation? Also, at our house, we rarely eat out and most nights our children clear their plates from the dining room table - should I make them bus our table at the restaurant?

There are a million other examples of things we don't make our kids do on vacation, that we do require them to do when they are at home. This whole argument is crazy.

But don't worry, I'll be sure to tell my very thin, extremely active, straight A, county-wide Spelling Bee winning child that he won't be amounting to anything in life because his lazy parents let him ride in a stroller at WDW. Geez.
