How much do you recommend for spending money?

My family and I and a couple of friends are planning a trip in March/April 2007. We have got prices for hotels and tickets etc but we cant figure out how much to take for spending money individually.

Could I get any estimates off of anyone that you would normally take or how much you would recommend.

Much appreciated.

It's a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question.

Where do you want to eat? (Check out allearsnet.com for menus and prices), do you load up on gifts and will you be heading to Walmart to get a pile of stuff that costs the Americans a lot less than we British?

On previous trips, we figured about $50/person/day for food and spending money. We usually have a little left over or come out fairly even. Our trip in a couple of weeks will be our first with the Dining plan, so we're dropping that amount to $20/person/day. Not sure how it will work out.

I think we are using the Disney Dining Plan. We are staying on site at All Star Sports for 2 weeks. We will be booking in the next few weeks or so and have already accounted for the trips to Space Kennedy and Universa/IoA. Its just that dont want to take too much money and just spend it because we are there (because we will!), want to take enough for the occasional cuddly toy or a tshirt etc.

Get a Nationwide account and use their Visa Debit card (which is what I do). Unlike the other banks they do not charge for "converting from Dollars to Pounds". That way you have the ability to buy what you want, when you want. Practically everywhere in WDW accepts them, even many of the vendor carts. :D

Outside of meals...

$50 a day per person. No less.

If you have some left, don't worry....it never expires!

You'll be a lot happier if you have too much money than you will be if you run out!!!

HAVE FUN!!!

If you have the dining plan, then $20 a day is a good target. However, you need to decide how much in souveniers you will need and that is a very individual thing since people that collect pins would need much more than someone who is only going to buy a few things.

When we went in September, we had the free dining plan and took $1200 for spending. We came back with close to $200. We would have been fine with a lot less money. The thing that ate up a lot of it was the pins and bottled water. We spent about $100 on bottled water because we didn't like the taste of the water there

We ALWAYS take water with us. If we are flying down, we stop and get a case or two before heading to the resort. It will save you a lot of money. Also, we like to get the Crystal Light "on the go" packets and add to the bottles. Several flavors and a nice refreshing drink for the parks. We carry a couple of bottles each to the parks. If you have a frig in your room, freeze the bottles so they stay colder longer.

Family of 4 - we take £1000 per week in travellers cheques with a couple of hundred $ in notes for the day we arrive.
What we actually spend varies AND we always have the credit cards handy for any unexpected purchases

We used these this past August and they really made a difference! I noticed my kids drank more. Crystal Lite is not the only brand available... 4C's Iced Tea has a better flavor and WalMart has their own brand and we really like the Orange & Lemonade. These work well if you refill your bottles in the park and don't particularly like the taste of the water.

We are a family of 4 (2 adults a 17y/o & 11 y/o) and we bring $100/day for food. I don't usually break down the "spending money" money ,but the kids each had about $50 and I had about $230 in Reward Dollars and we spent it all (we were there 4 days).

I guess you really need to decide just what you want to buy. I like barnum's idea of a debit card, especially if they don't charge for currency conversion.

Before dining plan, I used to budget $100 a day for meals. Character meals ran us around $60-70. Then a counter service of $20-30 and a few snacks along the day. With the dining plan it is already paid for so I am only adding an extra $10 for those popsicles my girls love.

Then I don't really budget daily for gifts and souvenirs. I just decide how much I am willing to part with. This year I saved the girls money for them. They have about $130 a piece that they have saved, begged, borrowed, stealed and worked for. I have my rewards money and my husband recently won a $1000 gift certificate to Disney World. This is going to be a wonderful trip, but we are also buying Christmas presents with our money.

In general I budget $1000-$1500 in spending money for gifts and souvenirs. Depends on what we are wanting to buy and why. We scoop out the Disney World shopping services for things we know we want and then work up a spread sheet in Excel to get an idea of what it is going to cost us.
