HKDL gets new castle, frozen land and marvel land.

HK disney doesn't have the space for villians land its around 14 acres in size. Even piston peak which many thing is a potential for the last big piece of land is around 6 acres. The land south of grizzly is 4.3ish acres and 4.6 if the pavillion is included and the 6.5 in the trees all around it are included and the outer boundary trees are pushed back, also frozen is around 4.8ish acres for reference.

You can push it to almost 10 if you pushed the park line all the way to esplanade and ate the south western quadrant of the esplanade space given they seem to have no long term plans for that

Was looking up to see whether HKDL has filed anything, this was from March 2026, an update to show that they've started work. Does anyone understand the meaning for useable floor area? Does it mean for queues/exit gift shop..

Edit: Also seems like they've updated the non-domestic GFA from the original 10,043.3 to 11,861.6

Technically your correct and I think even in use case from the town planning board that side of the esplanade is theme park essentially so no legal stuff either I guess it will be a while though as I expect them to first build smaller stuff to finish the current 10.9b before asking for a big amount of money for a full new expansion. Btw I believe once they've done the last parcel of land they should look to redo some of the original mess. When walking around hong Kong disneyland it's so obvious to see the poor cheapness of the original theming and attractions compared to everything post the original park.

Even it's a small world which was the first expansion feels miles better then the og stuff. I'm surprised orbitron isn't getting a remake right now as it's mostly down (only reason I can think it's not is Tomorrowland already looks like a construction site adding more will worse)

As a first timer, the entrance experience showed obvious lack of budget especially coming from Shanghai. Nothing wrong as such, but clearly built with not a lot of money.

Main Street also felt not as grand as it should. Even cheaper than Anaheim. Again, much better than average but not the standard you’d expect. The there’s fantasyland. As a land as such and not thinking of attractions it was clearly budget limited. Wide open tarmac and nothing more. Real Paving and some stone planters with trees would work wonders.

Like yeah sure the ground is real pavement but Shanghai looks like they spent a lot of money with the intentional goal of making it look tacky which is worse in my eyes than Hong Kong’s “clearly there was not enough budget for this”

I definitely think HK needs a serious refresh on its legacy areas though. Arendelle being a sort of pseudo expansion to fantasyland really dates fantasyland, I’m assuming that the big new marvel plaza will do the same to Tomorrowland (not that it needed any help looking dated anyway) but I also don’t think it’s a serious enough concern to drop expansion in favour of correction for x number of years

I think the plot south of grizzly needs to be done first before closing old attractions and areas for a redo. The simple reality is HK disneyland has the least attractions (shanghai also has 17 but has the canoes the challenge stuff thats not part of the 17) paris has 22, tokyo and magic kingdom have 25. The park on days when theres multiple closers can already be a problem.

Saying this even if that plot would have 2 rides it would still be 20 rides, still not enough for a major redo of the older areas... I'm actually not sure what the solution is in the medium term to fix the older areas. Btw its ridiculous to think the park opened originally in 2005 with 8 rides 4 of which were themed fairground spinners of sorts. (autopia and its a small world didnt open on day 1)

I could see a few ways the park could tackle that. If you redo cloppin’s to make a unique fantasyland dark ride like Disneyland’s Alice you could make a Disneyland like Alice in wonderland sub area there.

You could expand behind marvel TOT into that plot behind space giving a 4th ride (a dark ride or even a scoop ride could work here)

Then if you used the grizzly plot and gave it 3 rides that would give the park an even 25. That’s “non OG Disneyland castle park” territory

It would also have 4 strong shows and a rounded headliner lineup of 4 modern proper e tickets + space

If that isn’t enough I’d just have to assume at that point that the parks capacity will be forever constrained

Is Marvel popular in HK? I know both their attractions have high capacities but when I visited they were both always walk on with a 5 minute posted line. I know the park isn't busy but other attractions like Frozen, the coaster, Grizzly, Jungle Cruise, Space all had lines of 10-30 minutes.

I can maybe answer this someone that visits around 20 times a year. The whole area was popular in avengers movie years. Ant man to be honest isn't the most popular character.

So my thoughts on the area today is 3 main points:

1) the rides are very high capacity ( i recently had a 20 minutes wait for ant man and we were waiting outside so the internal line is small - by design)

2) The area feels sparse ? this in turn probably means some people avoid the empty corner? why does it feel sparse so my theory is the rest of hong kong disney feels very dense and narrow paths etc and also every other area is sort of part of the main walking path so you have land crowd + walking through crowd and also photo crowd (again marvel isnt very photogenic area feels quite brutalist/utilitarian - not very disney feeling)

3) both the marvel rides lack any thrill factor?

why i think the marvel tower might be different. The area will have a signature look and photo area (quinjet) and also it will be thrilling.... but the corner of the park and generally wider spaces might still be a problem

Don’t think I agree. There is no coherence to HKDL’s Tomorrowland. Unless they rip out Orbitron and properly redo starliner and comet cafe. They also lack the entertainment package that does a lot of leg work for the other two.

Maybe an argument could be made against Paris since HK will have an added attraction.

Still, it’s not really a campus so much as Tomorrowland ft. a bunch of Marvel attractions. A Tomorrowland which still suffer the arid concrete expanse that most of them do. I found DCA’s to be much better landscaped than how it existed previously in my memory.

You likely can’t tell from the photo as easily, but the building is behind a scrim, it’s coming along fine. Trees are going in. I’m sure the scrim will come down and props will go up then everyone will be like “wow, how fast”.
