We spend our summers in Europe, South Africa or the UK. This year, we are taking the plunge and doing the 17 hour journey to the US. WDW is an absolute must as is Universal. I’m currently planning and am completely overwhelmed by the war-strategy worthy planning that seems to go into what should be a fun day out at a park. I’ve heard that the end June / July period is hectic and crowded. We are also staying off-site as hubby is not a massive theme park fan (he loathed Disney Paris but we loved it so staying off site is a compromise). So, we are missing out on extra magic hours but I’ve already booked 8:10 reservations at in-park brekkie places like Be Our Guest. I’m a stress-pot and I can’t do the whole planning, mission impossible thing and relax.... so... I’m thus forgoing a 40th birthday party and gifts and have convinced hubby instead to pay for VIP tours. So, that’s what I’m doing now and how I found your forum... I’m researching on how and what in terms of VIP tours (Disney vs Outside companies) as well as the many dining either VIP access options. The costs of these places are staggering and chances are that we won’t make the long trek to the US again... hence the splurge. A lot of money and my 40th gift so I need to get this right. I look forward reading your posts. Thanks

How exciting for you and your family!! You will be visiting during a very busy time and it's hot here. I suggest using Disney VIP for you tours. They will be able to escort you to areas that outside companies do not have access to.
Have a Magical time😃

Thank you. That was precisely my thinking. In the end I booked through Disney - ultimate day of thrills and the animal kingdom night tour. I’m super excited. As for the heat, I’ve heard of it. Hot I can handle - it’s the humidity that I think will be a challenge.

Hi! Yes, that time of the year is crowded and hot. I have not done this since I am from Florida and I am able to go during less crowded times of the year, but I have heard that going back to your hotel mid-day for a rest is often a good idea. But since you are staying off property that may be a bit harder. Another piece of advice is to bring snacks. Lines may be very long and you can get hungry. I always bring snacks with me while at Disney. I will also say it is great you made reservations especially for Be Our Guest. It is a nice restaurant with good food and reservations, especially when made in advance is a great move! I have no doubt this is stressful, especially since you are from outside the US (so travel will be long. Wow! 17 hours!). But I promise it will be worth it! Have a great birthday! Also, get a birthday pin at the parks (they are free to my memory). I did that when I went for my 18th birthday and I got a lot of "happy birthdays" as well as once some cast members saw my button and sang happy birthday to me! Good luck planning! But more importantly have fun planning!

That’s excellent tips! Thank you. I didn’t know about the birthday pins. What an awesome keepsake. I’ve booked brekkie for Be Our Guest... looking forward to it. My hubby loathes queues and theme parks but wants to do a day or two with us so I’ve booked the small group VIP tours throughout disney... hopefully we will do the popular rides (or some of them at least) on those. A massive cost but since we are already traveling so far...
I’m super excited. Can not wait (and to look out for the birthday pin too).
