Have only a few hours in Orlando... What to do?

I'd appreciate advice from the crowd. My wife and I are going to Orlando at the end of February. Given our flights and my business schedule, we will be free from about 3:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and will have Saturday morning free from wake-up to about 1:00 p.m. Does anyone have a good suggestion for how we can spend our free time?

-We don't want to spend the money or to "betray" our kids (their word) by going to the Disney parks without them.

-We wanted to go to Universal to "scout it out" for a possible future family visit (having never been there before), but their parks' hours go only until 6:00 (and people complain about Disney cutting back!) each day. That would give us 10 hours, max, at Universal's two parks--doesn't seem worth the dough. Is it?

-We are thinking about using a few "plus features" from old tickets to go to the open water park...

-Or should we just go miniature golfing at WDW and then kick around DTD?

Other ideas?

Given the time of year I doubt the water parks would be a good idea for an evening visit. I would do the mini golf thing, DTD and you might want to make a stop at the Boardwalk and check out Jellyrolls.

I agree with the resort dining and Wishes from either the Poly or Contempory deck (4th level, I think) suggestions. Additionally, how about Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue at Ft Wilderness?

When we're in the neighborhood sans kids, we splurge on fine dining that we can't afford for our family of four, but is OK for an adults-only treat (CA Grill, Narcoossee's, etc).

That's actually quite a bit of time. I would think about getting out of the attractions area - head up to Downtown Orlando, check out Lake Eola and Thorton Park. Maybe have dinner downtown.

Wander around Celebration

Check out Tibet Butler Preserve (on my agenda for my next trip) and the nature trails there

Saturday morning I would head up to Winter Park and the farmers market there. Or if you want to do that as an evening thing, and like wine, there is a wine sampling store there where you can try all kinds of different wines.

I don't know where you are from, but if you don't have one in our area, IKEA is always a trip. you can also explore Mall at Millenia.

Plan a couple of really nice meals somewhere

There is also something else I have found (but have not been on) called Aquatic Wonders Boat Tours. They have a night boat trip on Lake Toho.

You could probably go to some of the parks. When we went the crowds were so light that we had everything done within a couple of hours, with serveral attractions ridden more than once.

We also did mini golf which was fun, but didn't take more than 2 hours to play twice.

You could also go drive around and sight see. I noticed a big outlet mall.

Ride the monorail over and over and over and over - all while pretending you're really at Disney World

But seriously, I wouldn't advise paying for a day of park admission that late in the day any time of the year - unless you have it to spend. Parks will be closing early, so you'd only get a few hours out of it.

And you almost definitely won't want to get into a pool in February. Brrr.

Dinner somewhere sounds great. Take the buses and tour some resorts. Go stand outside the gates of the MK and cry because you can't go inside :)

I also wouldn't recommend wasting money on a Universal admission for only part of a day. It's barely worth a full day.

If it were just me and my wife (with the boys at home) and didn't want to visit the main parks, we would probably use the time by:

1. Having dinner at the fancy resort restaurants that the kids wouldn't appreciate (California Grill, Jiko, Artist Point, Yachtsman Steakhouse).
2. Visiting the Boardwalk - particularly Jellyrolls.
3. Going to DTD. I'd insist we hit Disney Quest.
4. Golfing at one of the mini golf courses on Saturday morning.
