It is the best movie I have ever seen! The acting was phenomenal, and Daniel Day-Lewis is a sure bet for best actor and the movie is almost a lock for best movie if there aren't any surprisingly good movies that haven't come out yet. Tommy Lee Jones is also a character, and his acting is very good also. Believe it or not, it actually is quite funny, much funnier than some "comedies" are. Also, my dad, all fifty some years of him, said that it was the best movie he has seen in his life! We are going back to see it again sometime this week it was that good. If anyone else has seen it, what did you think of it?

It was an outstanding movie. I easily can see how people with low intellect whom are thrilled by cheap storiy plots would not like the presentation. Excellent representation of Lincoln's life. I was fortunate enough to see it with some renowned historians which were overly pleased. Great great great movie! Deserves every award it will be nominated for. The set while filming was not far from me so seeing portions filmed added to the experience.

Oh goody. Nobody I know has seen this movie but me. I absolutely love this movie. Daniel Day Lewis was unbelievable as were many others. My second favorite was James Spader's character. All in all, if this does not win best picture, I am burning hall of presidents to the ground. Or, maybe just eat my body weight in dole whip.

LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVED this movie,,,,,,,,,I wanted to see it again an hour after we left the theater. I haven't been to the theater in a year, and I went just to see this movie,,,,,,,absolutely amazing,,,,,,as soon as it comes out on DVD, I will be owning it.

It did amaze me how little politics has changed since then though LOL

From what I've read, people were more predicting that Argo could win best pic... but now there is a huuuuuugge amount of buzz for Les Mis... I am supremely excited for that movie. Amazing music and they got some good actors. That being said, I'll agree Daniel Day-Lewis is probably a lock for best actor. It was a really good movie.

I have also heard les miz is great, and my parents saw Argo and said it was fantastic (I wasn't allowed to see it, I'm only 13!), and I've also heard silver linings playbook is also very good

I'm also very excited to see Les Misérables. I was surprised that Russel Crowe can sing. Hugh Jackman is a great actor along with Samantha Barks. I'm liking what I'm seeing from Eddie Redmayne and Amanda Seyfried too. And Anne Hathaway's rendition of I Dreamed a Dream is phenomenal.

Chills every time!

Daniel Day Lewis IS a lock for best actor considering his only real competition so far, Joaquin Pheonix in The Master, bad mouthed the Oscars in public. It was going to be and will be a two horse race and that comment tipped the scale in Day Lewis' favor. I thought Argo was ok with good bits here and there, but I was sort of disappointed because the Wired story, which served as the inspiration for the film, told the story better. I have to say I really have no clue which films have a legitimate (like top 3) chance of winning best picture. The possible nominees are easy: The Master, Le Miz, Lincoln, Moonrise Kingdom, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Argo, Hobbit, Life of Pi, Django Unchained (really looking forward to that one), and maybe an animated film like Wreck-it Ralph or ParaNornman (doubtful since Life of Pi will be the family film on the list). Keep in mind nominees have to get at least 5% of the voters first choices to be nominated and the number of nominees can vary from 5 to 10 depending on the number of films that hit that 5%.

No way do I see any animated film being nominated. I liked Wreck-it Ralph a lot, was very cute, but wouldn't put it on that last. I haven't seen Paranorman but I don't think it even got great reviews did it? Granted that's not always a prereq for getting nominated. But I agree with your assessment that Life of Pi will be the family film on the list.

Of the ones you listed, I do think Les Mis will have a very good shot at actually winning. It's exactly the type of movie the Academy goes for, especially with Hooper trying something new with the live singing. Lincoln is definitely a lock for a nom and I suspect will be another front runner. Academy likes Spielburg, Day-Lewis, and they love period pieces. Those are the two I see right now as those with best shots. Truthfully, Django Unchained doesn't appeal to me... as shocking as it is, the only Tarentino movie I've ever liked is Inglourious Basterds. Is it expected to get good reviews? Have their been previews? Hobbit is another one I will be curious about. I would guess it gets a nomination but I don't think it's a given.

ParaNorman got good to great reviews, but again Life of Pi has that family spot, much like Hugo, locked up. Tarentino is hit or miss with a lot of folks, but almost every movie he's made has been good. I also like spaghetti westerns so there's that too. I listed the Hobbit because Jackson had a strong handle on the LOTR trilogy.

LOL I am sorry I am not trying to disparrage the OP but he had me there for a minute...."best movie he had ever seen"....but your only thirteen? I too seen the movie, I liked the movie for many other reasons. There were also things I didnt like about the movie....yes I didnt think everything about the movie was perfect. The things I liked about the movie was more pereferal then most viewers would notice. I liked the setting, I collect antiques and I really enjoyed seeing what the Whitehouse would have looked like in 1860's, same goes for the costumeing...incredible! I also found it really interesting to see how the acerage citizen could walk the grounds of the Whitehouse. Even the ability to knock on the Whitehouse door and ask to speak to the President. In one scene there are just regular folk waiting in the hall outside his office waiting to speak to him. I thought the potrayl of Lincoln by Lois was phenominal....Spielberg took thirteen years to reaserch Lincoln and he made it a point to bring out Lincolns sense of humor as noted by another poster. I also think Sally Fields and the dialog between the two were incredible.

Now what I didnt like, I would like to have seenmore about his life and presidencey.....there was nothing about him prior to the cival war. Like maybe his election which was interesting. His younger years....what influences that made him the man he was. The story unto itself was an important part of American history and had a huge impact on what we became as a country. 80% of the movie is spent on the subject of the 13th admenment and how it was passed. There had to be more to Lincoln then that and I would have to liked to had seen more. The movie was very long, I think it could have been shortened by 20 minutes or more. Its a good 2 1/2 hours.

Overall it was a fantastic movie which will probably win Best Picture etc etc. But IMHO it is not without flaws.

I think Life of Pi could be the best bet by the end. Ang Lee has that Martin Scorsese / Departed vibe with voters because Brokeback was such a huge favorite only to lose to Crash (worst best picture ever).

As it now sits I think Le Mis is the favorite. Started out with Argo as the trendy pick, then Silver Lining Playbook, then Lincoln. Heck, before it is over we may see Taken 2 becoming the lock ;-)

And I hate to beat a dead horse, but can James Spader get some best supporting actor love? If you did not have such an unbelievable performance by DDL, he would have stolen that movie.

Lincoln is AMAZING in every was. It has a lock on Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor (Tommy Lee Jones), Best Supporting Actress (Sally Fields), And Best Adapted Screenplay nominations. And a really good chance at winning all of them.

I do believe that a lot of this film goes over peoples heads. I am a pretty astute person and I know that a second viewing is in order just to grasp all that is going on.

And Tommy Lee Jones' performance is EPIC! Fiery is an understatement.

The last movie that impressed me as much as this film was Schindler's List.

Amazingly, I agree with just about every word you have written. I think it was a tremendous movie that those performances were the best I have seen in a very long time. Tommy Lee Jones was a hoot. Disclaimer: I'm not sure that they give awards for being a "hoot", but they should.

Well, the noms are out and I feel pretty good. Called Life of Pi doing well. Oscar voters are prety predictable. Still going to burn down HoP if Lincoln does not win. Or eat my body weight in dole whip. Either way, do what is right voters. If I eat all that dole whip, no one wins.
