People have claimed that Harry Potter books promote black magic before, but one Tennessee private school thinks that they ARE black magic. The Tennessean reports that St. Edward Catholic School in Nashville has removed the J.K. Rowling books from the school library because its pastor, Rev. Dan Reehil, believes that the books contain dark magic that can result in evil spirits and curses being summoned and cast.

Reehil reportedly sent out an email which read, astoundingly:

“These books present magic as both good and evil, which is not true, but in fact a clever deception. The curses and spells used in the books are actual curses and spells; which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the text.”

Reehil said that he had spoken with several exorcists in the US and in Rome, who suggested he remove the books. It must be noted that the Catholic Church has a whole has no no official position on the books, with Catholic Diocese of Nashville superintendent Rebecca Hammel stating, “Each pastor has canonical authority to make such decisions for his parish school. He’s well within his authority to act in that manner.” She aadded that she didn’t believe any other school library in the diocese has followed suit.

She added, “I know that in the process they were going through and kind of weeding out some of the content in hopes of sprucing it up and improving the circulation,” though she said that she did not know what, if anything changed over the summer to prompt their removal, nor whether there were other books being pulled.

Uhhhhhh what
