Great Wolf Lodge

I know in Michigan Great Wolf Lodge is a destination hotel. People go there, especially in the winter, just for the water park. In the summer the water park is used as a babysitter while the parents golf or do some wine tasting.

In the Orlando area the hotels are used as a place to sleep and most of your time is spent in the parks. After all that is what you are spending your money on. I just don't see people spending the extra money to have a water park at the hotel if you are not going to spending the time there.

We have one in Williamsburg, near Busch Gardens and people stay there and use it both as a destination hotel and to just stay at and visit the surrounding area. For what they charge per night, you could stay at a moderate resort easily

I've been to GWL in Poconos and Williamsburg and they were fun as a kid, but could not seeing it being particularly successful with all that Orlando has to offer.

Families who would stay at GWL would spend more time at the resort than a regular hotel. There is a lot to do at a GWL. Perfect for those with young kids who leave the parks early.

In Wisconsin where Great Wolf is from its located in a what is the Wisconsin Dells which is also considered "the water park Capital of the U.S." They do very well there with a kalahari, Wildnerness lodge and many many other water park resorts. I know many people who just take several weekend trips there throughout the year. They also aren't the cheapest places to stay either. Based on prices we often would rather spend a week at WDW than going to "The Dells" for a weekend or two.

Not sure if this is in the right forum or not, but

Great Wolf looks to be opening a resort near WDW. Not sure if there would be a demand for it or not.

Always a demand for anything "touristy" in Orlando. It's pretty much an all inclusive stay (entertainment wise) so it would be perfect. Nickelodeon Resort is kinda the same concept.

It would be nice that Great Wolf Lodge at Disney World! I would like to stay there at Great Wolf Lodge! Awesome!
It wouldn't be on the Disney property though.

Side Note: Downtown Orlando will be getting a Wahlburgers soon!

I have never seriously considered staying there. When I see their rates I cannot help but laugh. I can wait for Spring/Summer and go to WCUSA... or head south.

We have a great wolf lodge here in Charlotte, NC. Here people use it as a vacation destination for a weekend trip or even for birthday parties. They are very expensive though.

Haha. Disney fans seem to have a visceral "hate" reaction to The Great Wolf Lodge concept. This is the 3rd conversation about GWL I've had with Disney Fans, and they are all the same. It's like we are talking about Universal parks or something.

It's not visceral, any of the indoor water parks in the Poconos all charge insane ($550/night the week after Christmas, for example). And I'm not sure what the value proposition is. It's aggravating because I used to be able to take my kids on an overnight ski trip, spending maybe $300 between hotel and lift tix. Two night's at GWL would cost me over half what I paid for my 6-night Disney trip with dining.........go figure.

Would Great Wolf Lodge be cheaper than a Disney Deluxe Hotel? Maybe that is the motivation for the company.

Did you do your Disney trip during Christmas week? And what comparable competition does the Poconos GWL have? And just like Disney World, GWL isn't about the value, it is about the experience. GWL is a premium family entertainment product. And as such, commands a premium price. I would imagine the Orlando GWL will fall between the mods and the deluxes in price.

This seems about right if prices are comparable to concord, NC GWL. Vastly cheaper than Disney's Villa's/multi bedroom suites. I think it is a good idea for the company and many people love the lodge atmosphere.
