Gordon-Levitt, Cotillard Confirmed for The Dark Knight Rises
Everyone seems to have already posted that Inception stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard would be starring in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises (Warner Bros., July 20, 2012). We assembled the cast so far.

Now it’s official. The release is below.

– Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have joined the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” the epic conclusion to the Dark Knight legend.

Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham. Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon.

The film reunites the actors with Christopher Nolan, who recently directed them in the award-winning blockbuster “Inception.”The director stated, “When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again.”

Heading the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” Christian Bale stars as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The main cast also includes Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle and Tom Hardy as Bane. Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Christopher Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven.
“The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Looks great, but is anyone else sad that the Nolan films are ending on this one? I really would love to see more Batman films in the Nolan batman universe.

Agreed. These last two films have gone so far toward repairing the Batman mythos after Schumacher drove it off a cliff.

As much as I LOVE the Nolan/Dark Knight series, I think it is a smart move to wrap it up after three films. In the past, many superhero franchises would keep pumping out films until they finally release a stink-bomb. Look at the Batman series from the 1990's. The first one? Pretty good. The second? Odd with DeVito as Penguin, but still fair & watchable. The third and fourth? *Crash* Series runs out of steam with an embarrassing final two chapters.

The Spider-Man series was not immune from this formula either. After the first two outstanding films, the franchise was flying high. Then along comes 2007 with Spidey 3. It looked like the director wanted to throw as many villains into the film as possible, include a tangled love story, have Tobey Maguire cry a lot, and *Crash* all over again. (And why did they decide to kill off Venom, the most popular villain in the comic book catalog after only 15-min of screen time??? Seriously MARVEL?)

Even though I have faith in Nolan to not make those types of mistakes, I think it's a smart idea to enjoy the cake before it starts to go stale.

The Dark Knight Rises should be a very well-made conclusion, and I defintely plan to see it opening night!
