Gold pass upgrade question

Hi! We have a definite trip coming in July. 3 days before a cruise, a week after, so my family of four will be getting Gold Annual passes. We’re DVC, so we can do that. We’re pondering a trip in December that’s blocked out by the Gold pass.

Has anyone ever upgraded their Gold pass to Platinum? I assume Disney is pretty much always happy to take our money, but just in case I thought I should double check.

Is there any reason we should just get the platinum now?

This is our first time getting gold passes. We haven’t had passes in years.

Yes you can upgrade form gold to platinum. The only extra benefit from gold to platinum is the lack of blockouts so, no there is no real reason to get platinum now but it honestly might be easier to avoid having to upgrade if you know you will travel during blockouts, makes sense to just buy platinum right away.

Thanks! Generally Disney seems happy to upgrade as long as you pay the difference. The only potential reason we can come up with to do platinum is if there’s a price increase between when we buy the gold and when we would upgrade. But since we’re not sure about the December trip we’ll just do Gold.
