Trip Report Girl's Weekend, Disney Style: A Tale of Two Sisters Getting Their Disney On!***COMPLETED***

Hello, new Disney friends and fellow Disney enthusiasts!

About me:
I am a fairly new member and have enjoyed getting my Disney fix by following many wonderful trip reports here when I am missing Disney…which is pretty much ALL THE TIME! Unfortunately for me, I don’t get to make it down as often as I would like, but I have made it down a few times, my first time was a weekend trip in 1991, a day trip to Disneyland in 1992, a full week trip in 1998, and then I took a loooooong hiatus and didn’t get back down there until 2016, which awakened my Disney passion and I got to go back in fall of 2017, and then most recently, beginning of June 2019. Though my husband enjoys DW, he doesn’t want to go as frequently as I do, so luckily for me, I have a sister who loves it, too, so I went with her on my last two trips. For my 2017 trip, I tagged along with her family and it was her first time there and she instantly fell in love with the place! So that brings us to 2019, when it was the dead of a miserably cold winter for both of us since we live in the north, and Florida was calling. We decided to do a sisters getaway weekend, and since I am a teacher, we had to wait until June. It was a long wait, but when the time came, we were more than ready. So let’s do this! This is my first time doing a trip report so I have no clue what I am doing so will be learning along the way, but since I have enjoyed so many trip reports on here, I thought I would give back and give it a try in hopes it can bring a smile to someone's face who needs a little Disney joy. I have lots to share with you and hope you enjoy tagging along with us down memory lane and I will tell you right now…when my sister and I get together and Disney and cameras become combined, it is Ham-It-Up City! You have been warned!

Who: Little Ol’ Me and my fellow Disney Addicted Sister.
That's me in the pink, and my sister in white.

What: Long weekend girl’s trip, Disney style!

When: June 7-June 11, 2019

How: Very bumpy plane ride, crazy weather from sunny and hot 102 heat index to monsoons of cold rain and thunderstorms with swimming through puddles, to very pleasant cloudy and overcast days, lots of buses and boat rides, a couple rope drops, and of course, lots of food, characters, shopping, and rides!

Where: Stayed at Pop Century, and over the course of the weekend, visited many resorts (Art of Animation, Fort Wilderness, Contemporary, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge), Disney Springs, and did two park days: Hollywood Studios and Epcot one day, and Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom on the other.

It was a lot to pack in for our 3 ½ days, but our Disney adrenaline was pumping and we tackled it all! It may have taken me all week to recover when I got home, but you know…YOLO!

So as Slinky Dog says, “Let’s go!”

Day 1: Friday, June 7, 2019
Travel: Yuck. I won’t bore you will all the gory details, but I had to get up at 4 in the morning, drive to our huge, international airport, navigate parking, stand in a very long security line, made it on the plane in the nick of time, suffered lots of air turbulence…the kind that makes you want to kiss the ground when you land…but I finally made it! Ahhhh…Orlando airport…I love seeing this! So exciting!
381642

I only had to wait a little while for my sister’s flight to land and then we were off to the Magical Express!

Check In to Pop Century. This was my second stay here and let me just say, I LOVE the smell of the lobby there. So after some discussion with my sister on what that smell could possible be (like orange cream but more lemon-y maybe? We will never know), we looked around the lobby and headed to our room. We enjoyed the walk down memory lane…not to age ourselves, but we certainly remembered these:
381643

Magical Occurrence #1:When I stayed at Pop a couple years ago, I was all the way at the back of the resort which added a lot of walking. I did request a closer room this time, but I don’t know if it was because of my request (I never heard anything back from them) or if it was just luck, but we were a lot closer this time, in the 50s building, just a few minutes walk from the lobby and transportation. Our feet certainly appreciated that after miles of walking all day. Also, when I stayed there a couple years ago, I was lucky enough to get one of the newly refurbished rooms so new they were nice, and now they are all done, so was happy my sister would enjoy them, too. Modern, clean, comfortable, and at a good price…what’s not to love! And we love the art above the beds! Fun!

381644

We had a few hours until our dinner reservation so thought we would walk over the bridge walkway between the two resorts to check out Art of Animation in case we would ever want to stay there on a future stay. Now, it can get hot in the Midwest where we are both from and we can suffer extreme temperatures throughout the year, but this year, it has been rainy and cool for pretty much forever so we had not gotten a chance to acclimate to hot weather yet. So we were NOT prepared for the level of hot it happened to be at this particular time in the afternoon as we walked around. We pretty much thought we would burst into flame at any minute.

381652

Just to survive and not look like one of those skeletons who didn’t make it in the desert, we had to dodge inside for some air conditioning here and there. We managed to not spontaneously combust and enjoyed seeing all the character statues around the resort, and made it back to Pop and thanked our lucky stars for the man who invented air conditioning…seriously, he should get his own holiday!

381653

After recovering for a little while, it was time for our first big event of the trip: Hoopty Doo Review! This was both our first time checking out the dinner show and we were super excited! And hungry! Magical Occurance #2: The bus to Magic Kingdom was there and we didn’t have to wait! Yay! So off we went to the MK, got on the ferry to cross the lagoon, and there we were at Fort Wilderness Campgrounds with plenty of time to spare. So we looked around a bit, did a little shopping in the gift shop, my sister did some pin trading, and took some pictures. It was still hot, but overcast at this point so that helped and the sun wasn’t as high in the sky so we were happy about that.

Following along:) I recently ordered a candle from Magic Candle Company for a few WDW inspired candles and I got the one that smells like the Grand Floridian lobby. And I was so happy to find out that it does, in fact, smell like the GF lobby!!! Years ago, I had ordered the EnviroScent HD scent machine for the Green Aloe and Clover scent that WDW uses for the GF, Beach Club, and a couple others. But the scent cartridges got too expensive. So I was ecstatic to find that same exact scent in a much more affordable candle LOL. The company does have a candle for the Pop lobby. I don't know how accurate it is but the GF is almost dead on :) So you might be able to bring that Pop lobby scent back home with you.

I noticed your sister's t-shirt and Dole Whip ears before even reading your commentary, love them! 🍍🍦😍
You both did a great job making your own personalized ears!
Hmmm, you didn't happen to forget those beauties back at Pop by any chance? :geek:

Breakfast at Ohana looks so good! Who knows what happens sometimes with the characters not having an established and timely cycle when greeting people at their tables? I've seen the same thing happen with Pooh and Friends at Crystal Palace. I'm glad you waited though, the pictures are worth it! Also, I haven't seen the backgrounds you got with Photopass at Disney Springs before, very cool!

Can't wait to read all about Storybook Dining! :bookworm:
There were tons of different backgrounds they surprised us with when the photos dropped into our account. We had ones where we were amongst the fireworks, within Mickey balloons, over London like Peter Pan, in a cartoon garden, and much more. It was a really fun surprise!

The only thing that keeps me from making reservations at Pop are no double beds. Is the Murphy Bed comfortable? I am planning a trip in November with my SIL and we need two beds so we have booked the POFQ.

Just wondering about that Murphy Bed????
Well, I can't report on the comfort of the murphy bed because I'm the older sister and have some back issues so my sister was kind enough to let me have the "real" bed. However, I could tell the difference between the two and I do think the murphy bed would have been less comfortable for me. With that said, my sister didn't have a problem with it at all and slept pretty well.

I will totally be looking into that! That would be my new favorite candle, for sure! Exciting!

I also love your sisters ears and shirt. I always love me a good ear and shirt combo.
Following along!!!
Thanks for joining us! Yes, my sister got a Cricut and became a Disney T-shirt making guru! She made a couple other cute shirts you will see throughout the rest of the TR, and of course, she loves to match them with her ears!

Day 2: Continued!
Okay! On to the what became the highlight of our whole trip...the Snow White Dinner at Artist Point!!! This character dinner was what sparked us wanting to do this trip last winter when we saw it being planned on all the social media sites, and we knew we just had to have this experience! So before I get into it, just a little backstory here…as you can see on the picture for my account here, I am a HUGE Snow White fan. The Snow White story is one of my favorites for many reasons, but most importantly, it was Walt Disney’s first animated movie and was truly a work of art for its time that was a struggle to make happen, and thank goodness it did, or Disney as we know it may not even exist today! Snow White was our first Disney princess and the Evil Queen our first villain and I love that they are getting their own special dinner! My sister and I also love the Disney Villians and when we went to the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party on our last trip back in October of 2017, my sister went as Ursula and I went as the Evil Queen (maybe I will do a much belated trip report of that trip sometime)!

Here is a throwback photo of us dressed up like them at MNSSHP 2017:

382078

I was also lucky enough on that trip to get my photo with the Seven Dwarfs!
Here is another throwback photo from MNSSHP 2017 when I was dressed as Evil Queen!

382079

So when we saw this dinner was coming, we knew we were all about it, and just had to do it, and we highly coveted the opportunity to get the very rare meeting with the Evil Queen and add that to our character photo collections! So needless to say, we were SUPER excited to go to this dinner!

So let's dig in!

When I last left you, we had returned back to the Pop from Disney Springs and had just enough time to freshen up and get ready. Off we went again to catch the bus to the MK to get on the boat to go across the lagoon (we were becoming experts at this!) to the Wilderness Resort. It was starting to thunder and lightning struck really close once we got off the boat, so once again, we didn’t get to look around much outside and booked it indoors just in the nick of time because the sky opened up and a monsoon basically occurred. My sister made the very astute observation of how fitting it was to be hearing thunder and lightning as we were headed to meet the Evil Queen!

We had some time to spare and enjoyed looking at all the Snow White art that was outside of the Artist Point restaurant, and took some more photos around the resort, which by the way, we LOVE the Wilderness Resort and it is definitely on our Disney bucket list for future stays!

382088

382090

By the way, this art is not cheap! If you have an extra $30,000 big ones laying around, this table can be yours! The art dealer told me all about it...hand casted bronze hand painted with some chemicals that changes the bronze colors. (and the glass top looks bent but that was just the distortion from my camera).

382093

Would people think I'm weird if I hung this above my fireplace? 🤣😁

382095

So here we are, super excited! As you can see, I am sporting my Evil Queen ears but brought my Snow White pair, as well. My poor sister had ordered some Dopey ears to have for this dinner but they did not arrive before the trip so that was a bummer. But she wore her purple ears because we all know the Evil Queen loves her majestic purple (and they are potion purple so we figured she would like them)!

382094

We finally got seated and all I can say is that this dinner was worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY! It was pricey, around $55/person, but everything was so well themed with the food, atmosphere, service, and the character interactions were outstanding! It was well paced and we were there for a couple of hours and never felt rushed.

The menu looked like a storybook and the napkin had an apple on it with the character’s autographs on it. Adorable!

382096

The appetizers were shared, and consisted of Mushroom Bisque, Hunter’s Terrine (which was fancy stuff on a cracker LOL), and Wicked Shrimp Cocktail, which was a type of shrimp salad.

382098

It was all really good but our favorite was the Mushroom Bisque. It was to die for!!!!! Yummy yum yum! The only problem with it was that there wasn’t enough of it and we wanted more! And it came in this adorable little cauldron that was a perfect little touch.

382099

So there you go...Part 1 of this fabulous dinner. Part 2 coming right up!

On to Part 2 of Storybook Dining at Artist Point!

While we were enjoying our appetizers, Snow White came out and was introduced and really made an entrance! The lights were twinkling, the music playing, she danced and spun around. Very princess-y! I think I might start entering rooms like that!

Twinkle lights!

382105

We had lots of choices for our main course and we both decided to try the Royal Prime Rib Roast, with horseradish mashed potatoes, carrots, and a Yorkshire Pudding (what says "popover" on the menu but my husband is English and would be very disappointed in me if I did not call it a Yorkshire Pudding...I also did not tell him I had this or he would have been very jealous...but what can I say, what happens on girl's weekend, stays on girl's weekend! ;)

382107

382106

Every single thing on this plate was fantastic! This was where I started to feel like the $55 was a really good value. The quality of the food was worth that much alone, and I was getting themed entertainment to go along with it. I have no idea what the other items on the menu were like, but both my sister and I were pleasantly surprised at the high quality of this dish.

While we were eating our delicious meal, my girl, Snow White, was going around meeting everyone and we had a delightful conversations where she loved my Snow White ears (I had switched so I didn’t scare her with my Evil Queen ears) and we talked about all her little critter friends in the forest. She was so sweet!

382108

382110

We also had Dopey and Grumpy make their grand entrance to the Heigh-Ho song and come around to meet us and we got to talk to Grumpy about having to work all day in the mines but he found some diamonds, and Dopey loved our Mickey ears because they were big like his ears! They were too cute!

382111

382112

Now, right about here I would have thought I had got my money’s worth of entertainment, but they weren’t finished! Not even close! They all started to dance around to the Whistle While You Work song and got everyone clapping and singing along. And then it was time for the Evil Queen to make her grand entrance! She was introduced as “The Queen” and thundered in with the villainous music and scowled at us all! The twinkle lights even turned purple...it was all very dramatic and we were totally loving it!

382113

So the time we had waited months for was here…finally time to meet Evil Queen! We formulated a game plan that consisted of not offending her by calling her Evil Queen and just address her as “Her Majesty,” bow and curtsy, show her our awesome shirts we were wearing that my sister made, and I had a Snow White mirror I brought along to ask her why it doesn’t talk to me. And I switched from my Snow White ears back to my Evil Queen ears, and because I am such a nice sister, I offered my Snow White Ears to my sister if she wanted to wear them to meet the Queen and she did and boy….did that end up to be super funny…for me, anyway!!!

382114

382115

You can see the the Queen over my sister's shoulder and she looked super intimidating, but we were ready! Part 3 coming up...dessert and The Queen!

Here we go...Part 3 of Storybook Dining: Meeting the Queen!

With our previously mentioned game plan in place, we got in line and soon it was our turn. She was very intimidating and came right up to us and we performed our best curtsy and she immediately summed us up top to bottom and declared that she saw that at least one of us had good taste in headwear (Me!!! LOL). She was not amused that my sister was wearing those Snow White ears! 🤣🤣🤣

382117

We then showed her our shirts and she told us we were very brave to dare use her real name around the kingdom! We then asked her advice on how to grow the most tantalizing apples and she let us know that if you look around the restaurant, her apples were used in many of the dishes and you would see they were to her tastes. LOL! Then I showed her my mirror and explained it doesn’t talk to me and after admiring her reflection for a bit, she flipped it over, saw Snow White on the back, and tapped it and said, “Yes, this is your problem right here. It is ruined.” Hahahaha! It was too funny!

382118

It will forever be one of my favorite Disney character interactions AND I will forever get to tease my sister about putting on MY Snow White ears!

382119

Meeting the Queen was better than we had even imagined! I mean look at her...she is fabulous.

All of this fun and the night still was not over! We returned to our seats to get dessert! Dessert consisted of Miner’s Treasures (which was my favorite. It was like digging for yummy little gems inside chocolate cake!), Fairy Tale Gooseberry Pie, and a “Poison” Apple.

382131

It was all very good! Then our server said he had one last gift for us! He brought out the Hunter’s Gift to the Queen! This was such a fun way to end the dinner! What I like to call "spooky potion vapors" came out of it once it opened and inside was some candied popcorn and chocolate hearts!

382132

As you can see, we had a great time at this dinner, can’t say enough good things about it, and highly recommend it!

382133

As sad as we were to leave, we trekked back to our resort to try to get some sleep before our first big park day and an early morning to rope drop! Next up…Hollywood Studios! Hope you have enjoyed our tale so far! Much more to come next time!

Thanks for joining us! We did cram a lot in! It pretty much took all last week for me to rest up and recover! It was totally worth it, though! Hope you get to go to Hoopty Doo again next time! I can see why people want to do that over and over again. So fun!
