Galaxys Edge "camping out"

I do believe the statement released was for California, I think you are mistaken for Florida
You are right time limits are for the reservation system. All they say for HS is access will be limited due to capacity and there will be no fast passes for a while. They give dates.

They learned their lesson with the Guardians of the Galaxy. I was at Disneyland a month after the Guardians ride opened there. (It took me over 60 years, but I finally got there.) It was insane! Most people were streaming into California Adventure, where Guardians is, while we went to the original park, and were able to walk onto Pirates, Haunted Mansion, and Indiana Jones with no lines. After we did everything we wanted to do there, we went across the way to do Soarin' and to see what the Guardians line looked like. The Fast Pass line was the longest line I have ever seen at a Disney Park! I've started saving up for my next WDW trip, but I'm thinking of setting a target date maybe two years after Galaxy's Edge opens.

They are starting it out by offering Early hours for hotel guest at 6 am, I don't think they will do much for at least a few weeks after it opens to see what they are dealing with

They released a statement, no fast passes, 4 hour time limit, no reservations. I dont make this stuff up.
From the DPB:
A reservation will not be offered or required to experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the Walt Disney World Resort at this time. And you should know that valid theme park admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios is required to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge after its opening on August 29, 2019. Capacity is limited. Additionally, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be available during Extra Magic Hours. During Extra Magic Hours guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels can spend extra time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios enjoying select attractions. Details will also be available at a later date on Disneyworld.com and the Disney Parks Blog.

ETA:
Attractions: For your vacation planning purposes, please be aware that Disney FASTPASS service, including access via Disney MaxPass, (at Disneyland park) and Disney FastPass+ service (at Disney’s Hollywood Studios) will not initially be offered at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. We will continually evaluate our operations and services in order to help provide a great guest experience.

So, if there is a line, would people line up outside the the parking gate in the AM? Also a side question, are the layouts of both parks the same for GE?

I had a couple of calls with WDW today on an unrelated issue, but I figured I'd poke around to see if they had any information about the GE opening, as I booked a trip specifically for it (what that says about my mental state and reliability if for you to judge....).

FWIW, the cast members had no real information to share. The are going to see how things go in California before making any changes to the current opening plans for Florida. One of them said he thought they would start letting cars into the parking lot at midnight on opening day - I couldn't tell if that was his opinion, or if he let an actual fact slip. So I don't know if they are going to empty the parking lot after close on 8.28 or not. And they did not know what they would be doing about folks lining up who are not parked.

I think the OP is talking about DLR, not WDW. The east entrance to the property is on Harbor Blvd, so public street. Otherwise the bums at the Anaheim bus stops would have been routed long time ago. Yes in theory they could camp out. I am assuming the the bus drop off area on property is just that on property and they could enforce the no camping there.

I kept thinking that we wouldn't see lines forming days before, but I kept coming to this thread just to see when the pictures started to form. I realize now, I fully expected people to camp even though I kept saying (to myself) they wouldn't. I am surprised we haven't seen any photos yet, or is that happening in another thread (perhaps this thread is earmarked for WDW and so the DL pics are happening elsewhere???) Still surprised pics wouldn't show up here on this thread when the first "camper" or line formed.

What crowds? Looks like the admission policy will be to only admit 50-75 good looking Millennials at a time.

All joking aside, the place is spectacular looking.

Where are all of the round people at? (is that pc) Where are the baby strollers? I don't know why, but I think it
may get a little more crowded than this. By the way, YES, this looks amazing!!!

So why were they all striding through, not looking at anything? The only ones to actually look at anything at all were the family in front of the Millenium Falcon. Until everyone gathered at the Tie Fighter, and even then they were hardly looking in the right direction. And the hair tossing was just a distraction.

It was almost as if they weren’t actually in Galaxy’s Edge. As if this was all filmed in front of a green screen :cautious:

I might have to rethink my WDW 50th plans. Was planning for a 50th Oct 1st , just to be able to do it but not sure if even 1/2 these lines would be worth it.

I'm aiming for late October myself. Should be all the same things and much less people. You don't get "I was there!" merch but somehow I will carry on.
