Free night at Hard Rock.....Apparently not

Really disappointed. We're Hard Rock Reward Members. We just returned from 7 awesome nights. We earned enough points (after 2 consecutive years) for 1 free night. I called to book our room for July 2017 and were told there was no availability for the free night. We love this hotel but this is extremely disappointing, especially given our loyal patronage over the years. We canceled our reservation. Very misleading to send an email giving us a free night but then saying we can't use it for our trip a year away.

We love Universal, but quite frankly, my patience is wearing very thin with their relationship with Loews. Obviously, the Hard Rock Rewards program is a joke, but the whole hotel booking thing is getting on my nerves. I've never booked a hotel room at any chain anywhere in the world where you can't pay your balance off with a credit card over the phone. You have to fax over a credit card authorization form, copies of your credit card, copies of your license. It's ridiculous. Then if you want to switch resorts, you need to cancel the first one, wait 7-10 days for a refund, then rebook the other resort. Universal has Disney beat on many things but on this, sorry, but they suck.

As a person who works in hotel I can tell you its common practice not to charge cards given over the phone and to send a guest credit card authorization form. Its for your protection as well as the hotel. As far as your other issue your free room lots of time that is based on occupancy and has to be made closer to the arrival date a year out is really early. I would try closer like five or six month out at the most. Its not nice to complain about things you don't understand because you only want it your way.

Sorry, but not buying it. Stayed in many different hotel chains: Choice, Best Western, Hilton, Marriott, IHG, La Quinta, Starwood, Wyndham - Never had to use a credit card authorization form. Ever. Most importantly, never had to use one with Disney, and that's all Universal should care about. If they want to compete with Disney on the hotel market, they need to be as convenient as Disney. But that's a Universal - Loews issue.

As for the free night, the certificate expires in August 2017. I don't think it's uncommon for people to book their vacations a year in advance. If you wait until you're 6 months out in Orlando, you may not get the hotel you want.

I don't work for a hotel, but I think I've done enough traveling to have a pretty good grasp on how things work.

I've earned a free night as well. I'm pretty sure they won't honor it when I want to go, but I'm going to try. Mine's good for Tampa and Hollywood too, I think we're going to go to Hollywood for the day- it looks better than Orlando.

Heading for the great escape.
why would you want to pay in full if you dont have to? And Ive cancelled may booking at a range of hotels inc Lowes and never had to wait to make a rebooking.

I can stay for "free" at Tampa and Hollywood, but I don't get the same perk for Universal. :(

So I get it out of the way and not have to worry about it.

You don't have to wait to rebook, but you do have to wait for the refund. I just find it bizarre. Think about it. Imagine placing an order online for ANYTHING and having to make copies of your license and credit card and fax it to the retailer. It's absurd.

Instead of paying them in full and worrying about a refund, send a check to your credit card for that amount. Much easier and you don't need to wait for a refund.

For me, I'd much rather keep my money as long as possible. But to each his own.

Nah not the hotel by its self the whole resort is better in orlando...
There's no casino in Orlando..

That's a plus and minus. Probably more of a plus.lol... But it's unfortunately why I can't get get a comped room in Orlando. I do love the pool, bars, and restaurants in Hollywood though.
