Fort Wilderness - No car, only Tent. Is it doable?

My son and 2 of his friends are flying in and planning to bring a tent to Fort Wilderness. They are 18, 19 & 22. What fun, huh?
My question. What are tips for them? They have 4 nights there, with two park days. What advice?

What time of the year are they going--winter months it can get cold.
They are going second week in September.

Their idea is to bring a tent in their luggage, take whatever transportation there is from airport, take it to the lodge and check in.

Logistically, how complicated will that be? No vehicle to lock up personal items, no protection from lightening storms. Is there anyone posting tips about staying without a vehicle?

So September is hurricane season. They need to have a back up plan if something tropical were to pop up.

You can do it without a vehicle. They would have to use Magical Express or some other transportation to and from airport. They can use any form of Disney transport. They would need to keep all valuables with them as there is no way to secure them in a tent.

Make sure that the tent is water proofed. Would recommend no food in the tent as the squirrels and raccoons will tear into it to get the food.

Its doable. Im not sure how enjoyable.

A good overview right here. https://touringplans.com/blog/2018/11/27/tent-camping-at-fort-wilderness/
I would tell them to check prices though, they might be better off comfort wise and save money staying at a value vs having to camp and buy equipment .

Thanks for the link! I've forwarded it to the guys.

They have already purchased tickets and booked a site. Dividing the cost 3 ways, they think they have a value.

My search is for info on how to pack for a flight the things that will be necessary to pitch the tent and rest comfortably. It's certainly going to be a bare minimum camping adventure.

As was mentioned Sept is hurricane season and even if it is not a direct hit it can bring very large amounts of rain. I don't think I could fit all the gear I would need to camp in a suitcase --sleeping bag, air mattress, flashlights, cloths, rain gear, ground tarp for under the tent etc. . I guess when I was twenty I could endure more than I could now. Have them do a trip report I would be very interested in how they make out

They will be fine getting around with out a car , Fort wilderness has a internal bus that will drop them off in the section they are staying so they will not have to walk to far to their tent site. The only problem I see would be the heavy rain at night ,they may end up in the bathroom waiting out a storm.

Ive done things when I was young and foolish that now years later I look back on and laugh at. This sounds like it would be one of those things. I cant imagine myself enjoying a WDW trip in a tent... but hope they have fun. It will be a great tale to tell their kids when they return and stay in a deluxe resort years from now.
