Fort Wilderness DVC Resort plans for former River Country land

An interesting new Twitter account called amusementleaks has just posted this image from late 2011 of plans for the DVC resort at the former River Country location at Fort Wilderness.

Why place a DVC at Fort Wilderness? It seems like it defeats the camping setting of the resort.

I just don't understand why they are leaking those pics. Everything else they've sent out has been of projects that are underway and nearing completion. This project was scuttled, right?

Would be a final straw for me since Ft. Wilderness has been my Disney Resort of choice since 1971. Last we heard was that those plans were indeed canceled... thank god.

Well, that parking lot represents more than inconvenient intrusion, I'm afraid....

The hate quota wasn't being met this week so they decided to bring back some hate from 3 years ago.

I wonder where they would move the stable and other horse related storage. Though I loathe this concept and hope it truly never comes to be, the area being utilized it mostly off limits today, unless you sneak into River Country. However, a 400+ car parking lot atop the current bus stop, stable, tack room, and Mickey's BackYard BBQ is lame indeed.

it looks like a pretty big resort/dvc...I would think that would be overkill at this point. But given how busy the WL/DVCWL is I could see them doing something.

Based on the photo above, and where it appears they'd put the DVC, it doesn't appear so. Looks like they would build something new....

The DVC at the Fort Wilderness Lodge is pretty popular, which is where this concept came from, but I think Disney began to realize that these "stand alone" DVCs (Saratoga Springs, Animal Kingdom) don't sell as well as the ones attached to an existing resort. So This was cancelled in favor of building DVCs around the monorail resorts

IIRC someone on here was talking about these back in 2011 or 2012. Cannot quite remember now exactly what thread but I would love to find it. It may have been the FW DVC thread that never died.

River Country was accessed by bus.

And now those spots are tapped out. But there's still more room at FW for DVC to keep people going to the MK....
