Ok. I'm sure lots of you want to use mIRC to access popkid's ex-ftp stuff (which you can now get btw, on ftp://wdw2:wdw2@24.46.61.21), yet can't figure it out.
Here's how to get the stuff.
1. Go to www.mirc.com and download the program
2. Open it up, and make sure that in the "connect options" box, that any server listed as DALNET is selected. Any of them will work.
3. Fill in a name, email, nickname, and backup nickname and then hit OK
4. If it does't connect already, hit the little lighning bolt in the uppper left hand corner. It may take a while to connect.
5. Once connected, you should see a box asking what channel to join. A channel ALWAYS is preceded by a "#". Type in #Disney-Central (not case sensitive)
6. A new window should show up. This is the main chat window. Users are on the right, text on the left. The bar at the bottom of that window is where you type. Copying text is as simple as highliting it. mIRC automatically copies it to your clipboard.
7. To access files, you must type a trigger to get the list of what is available to download. Ads will periodically appear. For instance, to download my share of items, when I (isnet396) am in the room type !dizmedia . Popkid is "noonan" on mIRC and he has several different triggers that allow you access to different files. !Diztunes is for music and !dizvideos is for video, i think. Check it out first.
8. In the event we begin using XDCC, the process changes a bit. XDCC is when a server, such as my computer gives a list of files to download, and you simply type in the number that corresponds to the file in the list. for example:
[10:44pm] <+isnet396> XDCC Server Active Sends:«0/2» Queues:«0/5»
[10:44pm] <+isnet396> Current BW:«0 cps» Record CPS:«0 cps by n/a»
[10:44pm] <+isnet396> #1 «17.4MB» epcot - 2001 entrance loop - (0 gets)
[10:44pm] <+isnet396> #2 «24.7MB» carousel of progress - full attraction - (0 gets)
[10:44pm] <+isnet396> #3 «17.4MB» 20,000 leagues under the sea - wdw queue - (0 gets)
[10:44pm] <+isnet396> Served:«0B» Packs Offered:«3»
[10:44pm] <+isnet396> MOTD: -= Invision 2.0 Build 1816 =-
[10:44pm] <+isnet396> Type:/ctcp isnet396 XDCC Send #<pack number> —I-n-v-i-s-i-o-n—
The active server sends show how many files I am sending at the moment out of how many i can send. The queues show how many files i can keep "on line" waiting to download.
The BW and Record CPS show speed information.
Lets say I want the Epcot 2001 Entrance loop. Note that the file size is listed, and to the left of that is a number, simply type what it says to at the bottom
/ctcp isnet396 XDCC Send #1
You can substitute my name with any other user, as long as they have an XDCC server running. To see what someone has running on their XDCC server, type
/ctcp isnet396 XDCC list
and their list of files will show up.
Some servers use "msg" instead of "ctcp". We use CTCP here.
If you're not using XDCC, you are going to have to use the old way.
Here is an example of how someone downloaded files from me today. After typing in my trigger, they get a list of dierctories, similar to dos.
There is a big list of directories such as
(((PARK AUDIO)))
(((PARK VIDEO)))
etc...
What you see listed (except for file sizes) you MUST TYPE IN. Lets say I want to look at the park audio. I would type in
cd (((PARK AUDIO)))
Then it may give me another list of stuff.
EPCOT
MK
AK
MGM
OTHER
Lets say I want Epcot
cd EPCOT
then, I have more folders
SE
HORIZONS
WOM
TEST TRACK
CHINA
CANADA
THE LIVING SEAS
etc...
Lets say I want a file from Horizons.
cd HORIZONS
A list of the files now appear
Horizons ride through.mp3 49.2 MB
Nova Cite Music.mp3 5.4 MB
Desert Habitat music.mp3 3.1 MB
etc...
I want the Horizons Ride Through music.
Type
get [filename]
or
get horizons ride through.mp3
NOT get horizons ride through.mp3 49.2 MB
It should begin downloading shortly or it will tell you that it was added to the queue.
This type of downloading is called DCC. DCC connections are open for a certain amount of time before they become inactive. Anything you chose to "get" will be qeued, but you will be unable to return back to the list of files without entering the trigger again.
To go back in a directory, simply put
cd ..
That's about it! Hope this makes it easy for you. I'm attaching some pictures so you know what I'm talking about. My version of mIRC is a bit tweaked, but they all look identical.
