Food Allergies and Dining Plan ??

I seem to remember someone asking a question like this before...but I can't find it and mine is a little different.

My family are DVC members and we are planning a trip, which will be our first with the option of adding the DDP. Unfortunately, my mom and my sister have extremely severe (and complicated) food allergies. They are allergic to most specifically corn and dairy, as well as other allergies which inhibit them from eating foods that have been marinated in certain marinades, spices, etc. As you can see, their diet is strictly limited and would not be able to eat the types of food my dad and I, as well as my boyfriend and sister's boyfriend (who are traveling with us in a Grand Villa) could eat.

So basically we only would want 4 out 6 of of us to have the DDP.

Unfortunately, Disney requires you book the DDP for every member of your party-but they are not able to eat the types of things offered at restaurants and would be carrying their own food in, as well as limiting themselves to general items such as salads when we do eat in the park.

Has anyone had a similar issue like this? Has Disney been accomodating in "un-requiring" every member in the party to eat?

In the old post I mentioned, I remember some people's recommendations were "oh well, just use their extra credits" but that is not the solution I am looking for.

Please help?? Thank you so much!

I would call Disney and explain your situation to them. Seems to me like they should make some exceptions in this case.

Yes, Disney dining can help you with the allergies.

Also, Disney has a "no MSG" policy at all Disney-owned restaurants; this excludes those at Downtown Disney and most of the country restaurants at Epcot. The majority of these restaurants have banned the allergy-inducing flavor enhancer as well, but the China pavilion warns that some naturally-occurring MSG may be present in their food.

All WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort table service restaurants that accept dine reservations can accommodate special dietary needs (such as allergies to gluten or wheat, shellfish, soy, lactose or milk, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, or eggs) if requested at least 72 hours in advance by calling 407-WDW-DINE.

When you book your dining, you will be given a phone number to contact the restaurant 72 hours in advance and they will go over menu choices with you, including possible specially created entrees not on the menu. They will also ensure no cross contamination for your meal selection.

Also, all WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort table service restaurants that accept dine reservations offer balanced menu choices and can accommodate lifestyle dietary needs (such as no sugar added, low fat, low sodium, vegetarian or vegan). If a lifestyle menu request is needed, Guests should advise a Cast Member at the time of dining of the request and they will be happy to assist. For Dinner Shows, a 24-hour notice is required for any lifestyle menu request. For menus, menu boards, and Guest collateral (guide maps), we created a special Apple Mickey icon that identifies "the availability of well balanced and vegetarian options" for our Guests.

Our counter service locations also can accommodate most lifestyle dining options and some special dietary needs. Just ask a Host or Hostess at that location.

Most WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort table service restaurants that accept dine reservations can even accommodate Kosher needs if requested at least 24 hours in advance by calling 407-WDW-DINE. We do require a credit card to guarantee this order, but will not charge the card unless the Priority Seating is canceled within 24 hours or the party is a no-show.

(Note: Kosher meals are not offered at Garden View Afternoon Tea, Teppanyaki Dining Room, Gulliver's Grill, Palio, House of Blues, Planet Hollywood, Fulton's Crab House, Portobello Yacht Club, Rainforest Cafe, Shula's Steakhouse, Todd English's bluezoo, and Fresh Mediterranean Market.)

Select Quick Service locations in the Parks and Resorts also list Kosher menu choices on the menu without advance notice. Stop by Guest Relations at any Park to inquire about current location choices.

Lastly, remember, when you are on the Disney Dinning Plan all of your party's meal and snack entitlements are pooled together per room. Anyone in the room can use the entitlements at any time, in any order, until each entitlement is depleted or until midnight on the date you are scheduled to check-out.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:
