As always the first day involves getting ourselves off our little Island to civilization. This time out however we are not taking the plane but taking the ferry and then driving down to Dover. So that means No luggage allowance WOOOOOOO.:D

So after loading up our trusty wheels we set off to a rousing round of “are we there yet ?” and headed down to the boat.

Everything was running to schedule and soon we left our home behind and headed off to sit in Jersey harbor for an hour or so before continuing on to Portsmouth. As it was an overnight sailing we joined the expanding queue for dinner.

For a ferry the food was pretty good. We went with the Lasagne for Donna and the chicken burger for myself with crème brulee cheesecake and honeycomb ice cream for dessert.

After this it was off to our cabin for the night.

How long does it take to travel from your island to Dover on average?
I have never been in a ferry longer than 3-4 hours, and that was in very short trip (from Vancouver, to Vancouver Island in British columbia, Canada for my Disney Wonder trip from Vancouver to Alaska)

About halfway back down we stopped at another vantage point that looked over the Fjord and some waterfalls. The two of us took the walk a bit further down to a second spot that was more overhanging of the scenery.

I can tell!
I had planned on doing the Fjords/Iceland on DCL next summer. Then opening day came- and the price for me and a 6 year old was over $13k. I quickly changed gears and booked on MSC for next summer instead- UK/ Iceland.

I do not currently have a DSLR, I'm planning on getting an Olympus and a GoPro Hero Session for our western Caribbean DCL cruise this year, but I think a DSLR will be mandatory for Northern Europe in '17!
You could always get a mid to high end mirrorless too. Specially SONY ones.

I used a Nikon D5100 for my Alaska travel, then upgraded to a D610 and now with a D500 for most of my travels.
So Id recommend Nikon too, specially the entry full frame.. wonderful sensors (same as most Sony) with impressive dynamic range.

You are correct. The tour guides were amazed at the weather for the time of the year.
good to know you had a lot of luck weather wise!

About 3-4 hours on a fast ferry. 8 hrs on the overnight. Plus driving time from Portsmouth to Dover.

We then docked at a small building and beach area to try some traditional Norwegian waffles (Lapper). Served with jam and sour cream and coffee. It was delicious. After eating and photo’s on the beach we re-boarded and set sail once more.We slowly retraced our route back to the port and dis-embarked back in Stavenger again.

I have a waffle iron that makes the same shaped waffles. I also happen to be a big fan of the word "whilst".;)

Talking about a late to a party!!! Must have been busy during this time!!

That looked like an amazing experience and adventure!! The scenery is breathtaking and your really are quite a photographer ( now dont let your head swell too much)! How nice, too, to be able to do something like that, not only with Donna but also your parents!

Someday when the kids are much older, I would love to do this with Den. Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to read your next TR!!

PS. Please keep track of your son Pluto next time! Quite irresponsible of you:p:p
I believe it was called having a princess:joyfull:
