As always the first day involves getting ourselves off our little Island to civilization. This time out however we are not taking the plane but taking the ferry and then driving down to Dover. So that means No luggage allowance WOOOOOOO.:D

So after loading up our trusty wheels we set off to a rousing round of “are we there yet ?” and headed down to the boat.

Everything was running to schedule and soon we left our home behind and headed off to sit in Jersey harbor for an hour or so before continuing on to Portsmouth. As it was an overnight sailing we joined the expanding queue for dinner.

For a ferry the food was pretty good. We went with the Lasagne for Donna and the chicken burger for myself with crème brulee cheesecake and honeycomb ice cream for dessert.

After this it was off to our cabin for the night.

Another early one today and back up the ship to cabanas for breakfast before heading down to fathoms lounge to meet up with the rest of our tour group.

Today is a bus tour of the city and surroundings with a stop at the Sunnemore museum and the Aksla viewpoint.

First up was the Sunnemore museum. After a short drive from the port which showed various industries and the local football stadium ( indoors) we arrived at the museum.

We took a guided walking tour through this outdoors museum learning about the different types of traditional Norwegian houses and the history of the country. Not all the houses here were from the area and a lot have been brought from all over the country and re-assembled all in one place. There was everything from cattlesheds (with living space above the animals) to schoolhouses.

A quick break for the gift shop later we were back on the coach and learning more about the town itself on the trip up mount Aksla.

Once we had traversed the tiny roads to the summit (not for the faint of heart) we had some time at the viewpoint to take in the city below us. There was another way up to this viewpoint from a park in the city but we didn’t feel like taking on the 418 steps to get back up there.

Great photos!! First of all (and I can't believe I'm putting this in the First place of all your pictures . . .), I LOVE the towel animals each day!! Those are more intricate than some I've seen on regular Disney hotel properties.

The rocky cliff walk and the seeing the goats up there must have been fun. I love to go and explore in different places like that. I also really liked the houses you photographed at the museum. They look so cozy and inviting. :inlove: :)

The towel animals were amazing (more to follow).
The houses look cosy until you realise you are sharing your sleeping and living arrangements with your sheep/goats/cows

Day 7 Geiranger

Today saw us up and on the top deck at 5am as we made our way into Geriengarfjord.

This was a spectacular start to the day as we drifted slowly further into the Fjord the mist was still surrounding us and the cliffs to either side. The crew were around giving out hot croissants and myself and Donna obliged ourselves of a egg and a cheese one. When we reached the end of the Fjord and the village itself we headed back down to fathoms to find our tour group for the day.

The dock was extended out to meet the ship (the others in port had to tender) and were one of the first groups out.

It was another coach day today which was taking us to the summit of mount Dalsnibba.

Once on board we were treated to an explanation of the area and its history and seasonal changes for the village by our guide Lea ( The best of the guides we had for the holiday). About halfway up the mountain and after about three quarters of the 27 hairpins we stopped at a lodge beside a frozen lake for some traditional Norwegian pastries and coffee. We had a small amount of time to explore, sample the fresh snow and take photo’s before we re-boarded and continued onwards up the mountain.

A quick shout out to both coach drivers here as they were very good and I wouldnt like to take a car up half the roads they were driving.

Soon enough we reached the summit of the mountain and were let out to admire the breathtaking views all around including back down the way we had come all the way to the distant Magic.

Far too soon we were rounded up and on our way back down the mountain and here was where our guide excelled. She sang us a traditional Norwegian love song. She was very good and the song was very haunting even though she explained it was a happy one.

About halfway back down we stopped at another vantage point that looked over the Fjord and some waterfalls. The two of us took the walk a bit further down to a second spot that was more overhanging of the scenery.

Once back on board we headed back down into the village and concluded the tour.

Mum and dad headed back onboard to get Sven but we decided to remain out for the afternoon as it was a spectacular day and spent most of the afternoon browsing through the tiny town and taking a walk partway up the local waterfall.

We found a small local bakery and a grocery store and grabbed a school bread from each one to see how they stacked up against the Epcot version. Nice as they are epcot has a long way to go to beat either but the fresh baked one was amazing.

All too soon we had to head back to the boat and we went back up to the top to watch the scenery on the way back out of the Fjord. It was amazing in the morning and just as amazing on the way out
