First Time to Universal

Ok, I know it's not Disney, but any comments? I just booked for June 27 - July 2 because my son is off between when school stops and camp starts, and we wanted to be together. We were at Disney at Thanksgiving and three times before. We decided on Universal because (1) we have never been there; and (2) my son's friend told him it was great (they are both 6). I have the flex package which came with the hotel (Royal Pacific?), movie, free transportation between parks, etc. How does reservations for restaurants work? They mentioned I have priority because I am an on-site guest. Does that mean I don't have to call 2 months in advance and guess which restaurant I want to eat at (like WDW) or can I make the reservations that day without a hassel?

Any other comments or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

You should be okay for advance reservations unless you are planning on eating at Emerils. If you are planning to dine there I would reccomend getting a reservation a month if advance just to be safe.

Miss Lilo -

I really have no idea how things work at Universal - I've only been a day guest.

However, I did read somewhere that if you stay on property with them you get to jump the lines at the parks....that should be quite useful! :animwink:

I hope you have a fabulous time! Ride BTTF and MIB for me please!!!

Thanks Phenex. When I call them back to confirm my flight so they can set it up with my transportation to and from the hotel I'll ask them about reservations at restaurants. I figure the hotel restaurants should be o.k. only because day guests stay in the park. I have to take a closer look at the restaurants only because my two men are picky eaters.:brick:

Thanks Cymbal. I know I'm not going to Disney, but why not try something new. It seems Universal and Disney are in such competition with each other let's see who can come up with the most to entice me back:D

Oh I agree with you 100% Miss Lilo!

I was just saying that I'd never actually stayed on Universal property. I do intend to though ... the HRH is SOOOO calling my name! :D

I really did read somewhere that guests staying on property at Universal got to bypass the lines. I don't know if it was just a special when the resorts opened, but you might want to check it out - I know that feature would bring me back! :animwink:

Front of the Line access is still offered to Universal resort guests, and is one of the best things about staying there. All you have to do is hand your room key over to the greeter, let him/her scan it, and you are on your way to the front of the line.

Thanks. I did read that too about getting in front of the lines. The other question is that in the literature they mention as an on-site hotel guest I get priority for seating at the restauants. Now if that's true, maybe Disney should try that too beside jumping the line if you are also a guest.

This is definitely going to be an adventure:sohappy:

We plan on going to all the parks listed on the Flex. Especially Sea World. My husband's been there before (without us), and I know my munchkin will love it.

Of course, we will always return to the Mouse.:D

Well Freak I'll be going on the coasters by myself. Husband won't go and my son is only 6 and HATES any kind of roller coaster. But take him on Buzz, POC and the Norway ride and he loves them. As soon as I have my air all taken care of I'll be calling Universal with a billion questions. You know me I plan right down to what underwear everybody has.
