I pray that The Irishman does not win nor any of the major actors in it. I thought it was a weak last reach for glory from Scorsese and his acting boys. Long, boring, and pointless.

I liked The Irishman a lot, but I don’t think it’s in line for any major win outside of technicals. I could conceivably see Marty winning Director, but I think Tarantino, Joon-Ho, and Mendes are all above him. I think it’s a near lock for Best Visual Effects, though.

Thrilled for Parasite and Director Bong last night. What a move by the members of the Academy to actually vote for a unique and compelling film and not the tired, easy picks we have seen so often. Great night in Hollywood and hopefully a permanent step in the right direction.

i always find it odd that every year at the oscars, they always manage to leave a few people out of the in memoriam segment.

i always find it odd that every year at the oscars, they always manage to leave a few people out of the in memoriam segment.

They don’t accidentally leave anyone out. A committee is tasked to fit XX amount of people into a segment that is predetermined in length. They can only fit in so many people and they intentionally don’t include many people. If they had unlimited time they’d include everyone, but they don’t. The committee gets final say on who they want to appear in the segment.
