EPCOT Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

“WOW WOW WOW!”, a “major need” for my collection indeed! 🙌🏻 Something I also love is this is the same quality of the older plush toys they used to offer, material, likeness, and quality-wise, which makes me ‘very’ hopeful for the future in regards to merch! Give whoever was in charge of the design of this guy, a promotion/raise! They did a great job! 👍🏻👍🏻:

Would also be very nice if after this plush, they start to offer a variant with the classic yellow & red shirt, with ‘Figment’ printed on the front of it ala the classic 80s-90s plush again. (And hey, maybe also, if they wanna “expand” a bit). Offer the other outfits he wears in the original ride soon. Including his classic artist’s beret & bow tie holding his jar & lid of rainbows. Do an artist Dreamfinder plush with his giant paintbrush with rainbow paint on the tip of it. (Future Festival of the Arts plush set? 🙏🏻👀) Then after, maybe start offering classic blue top hat & coat Dreamfinder too.

Gotta say, the Detour scene Figment is moving his mouth, head (mostly), & arms fantastically now. Now, if only we could get the head left & right movements adjusted a bit stronger, eyelids, eyes left & right, his torso, and his leg/hip movements running again. Also, possibly get his face cosmetics replaced (latex is starting to droop near his eyes, could use a replacement (or possibly be fastened to his head better, depending on the actual condition)
With the influx of merch and the ability to reuse this AA figure, the Sound Lab, and Astronaut Figments again for a future restoration back to 1.0. I’d say it’s best to get these guys looking and animating the absolute best they can.(That and it’s just good show! 😉👍🏻👍🏻) After all, we’re only dealing with 3 fully animated figures here. :

At 7:42 (how this guy should look/be animating, 2012 POV) :

And judging by a recent video clip from “The Site that Shall Not Be Named”, Sound Lab Figment is mostly animating pretty nicely. ‘But’, his head left turn (his right) needs to be adjusted to be a little stronger. Eye lids & eye left & right movements need to be fixed, and the figure rotation to the left & right on the lift mechanism needs to be repaired.

So.. happened to look at another post from “The Site That Shall Not Be Named”, and in the new EPCOT Featival of the Holidays passport, neither Figment wearing his Christmas/Holiday sweater at Journey Into Imagination With Figment nor the Meet ‘n Greet with Figment in his sweater at The ImageWorks: What-If? Labs is even mentioned. He ‘is’ shown on the merch offerings, but that’s it. They mention Living with the Land.. but not a Meet n Greet or Journey Into Imagination.. Do.Not.Like.That. Glad to see people lining up to see Figment in the ride nonetheless upon looking on X/Twitter..

but yeah. I find that particularly weird, that the character they’re putting on practically all the merch, isn’t featured in the Holiday Passport listings as one of the listed/featured Holiday activities.
Granted, I know the ride’s been turned to Honey I Shrunk themed garbage w Figment shoehorned into that w a deceiving ride title & description.. but nonetheless, find it a little “shady” and think.. maybe they’re putting less emphasis on Figment and the Imagination pavilion’s offerings.. on purpose?? Just like it happened way back (95-98) when the original was running with a certain Honey, I Shrunk-themed 3D movie at the Magic Eye Theater…. 👀 Honestly, I hope I’m wrong on that, but it wouldn’t surprise me. This has happened before in the past.. hence why the story behind these last 2 ride rethemes/redos should be shared soon… just sayin’…

Oh yeah, speaking of which. You all remember those talks of “Bob Iger going to talk with folks to put Figment in short form content”, at a shareholders meeting upon being asked about it, not too long ago.. but nothing ever really coming of it, despite the clear level of popularity & clamoring?

Well, you know what… that ‘exact’ same thing happened in 1996 when Eisner was asked at a Shareholders Meeting, the ‘very’ same thing.. “Hey, ya know, we’d love to see more done with Figment. He’s a fan favorite, etc.” and the response that was given by Eisner was “I’d tried to get others interested in doing more with him in our feature and television divisions but I couldn’t ellict the same passion from anyone else”… (something along those lines, will post the screenshot/link when/if I find it again). Yeeeah, ‘sure’ Eisner… the guy that apparently said “I hate that (explictive) dragon” and “we don’t like a bearded guy hanging around kids” in an exec meeting, according to Ron Schneider (original meet n greet performer for Dreamfinder w Figment).
My God, help me.. and yup, they kept making Figment Holiday/Christmas merch back then too. When that Honey, I Shrunk the Audience queue rope, signage, and monorail spiel nonsense while downplaying the ride & ImageWorks happened. And people were saying the same thing even back then in Fan Site fan mail submissions “I just saw them put out new Holiday merchandise. They would ‘never’ get rid of him altogether”. Yeeeah, suurrre. 😒

Again, will make sure to share that shareholders meeting excerpt, wherever I found it once I come across it again.

Here it is!!! 🤣😂 🙌🏻 Man oh man, the Deja Vu is really something here, ain’t it? And the funny thing is.. the 7 foot tall Figment introduced back in ‘04 was also brought up upon its debut aswell.. and here was the response. You can find the full post if you look, but this was posted by Cheshire Figment (aka: Mike Tuchman, R.I.P. 🙏🏻) who was one of the key people involved in helping “Bring Figment Back” the first time around.

From another (from what I assume) to be a safe site to link here. : https://allears.net/2025/11/28/full-look-inside-the-2025-epcot-festival-of-the-holidays-passport/
But look, No mention of it… ‘anywhere’, yet, there’s only his photo featured in the merch segment, but his greet nor pavilion isn’t mentioned, not once. hehehe! You sure think you’re slick over there Disney, don’t ya? Think we wouldn’t remember from the last time you pulled this little trick on us.
IMG_8758.png

🤣 Yup, Look!! Living with the Land.. but “curiously”.. no direct mention of Figment’s meet or the Imagination Pavilion anywhere, despite this being an annual tradition for the past couple/few years now. hmmm, I wonder why that is?? 👀 🤔

Man, and I genuinely wish this was some big joke, but no. It’s totally legit/real.. check the link for yourselves folks. Seems it’s happening right in front of our eyes, again.

@Shishagumi Do your stuff. Get those interviews, ASAP. Cover all of this. It’s time. We are ‘not’ about to let Disney corporate get away with this ludicrous scheme to screw over Figment yet another time. We want the beloved, genuine, ‘original’ Journey Into Imagination ride, the one Tony Baxter was behind, the one we all fell in love with back that was genuinely a timeless classic, with the tech & spfx enhancements we expected, and that’s that. Not another Film IP themed sham, not another stupid missable cameo reference, not just merch, not more Film IP/IP crossover nonsense, we want the real deal… the very ride & characters we’ve (and it’s creators) been asking, profusely, for more than 20+ years now to rightfully return, the way we remember & love them. Marketed & utilized properly, as originally intended. Enough is enough with this nonsense.

At one point they were using these as a beta test for the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure..Where you had to use the Airzooka toy to stop Dr. Drakken's energy core..There was a video of it when it first came out but, sadly I think it has been removed..But, it was interesting as it took guest to what was then a backstage area when it got closed up.

Right, and they also held a Disney’s Pin Celebration: The Search for Imagination pin event up there too in the early 2000s. Jeff Lange has some photos from those days around.

Funny thing too btw.. so, at a couple conventions I went to fairly recently. I happened to stop & talk with both John Musker & Ron Clements, and asked them both directly. “Hey, so sorry if this question is a bit random.. but do you know if you guys were ever approached at any point to direct or was there any talk of any Journey Into Imagination/Dreamfinder & Figment movie at any point in the late 90s? I’d heard at one point there were suggestions by Eisner but wanted to confirm”. They both told me, “Nope/Sadly no, though Dave Michener, co-director on Great Mouse Detective did some animation for Figment for the ride”. So yeah, you can throw that false statement Eisner made at the time away. Highly doubt he mentioned the idea to anyone in the live action studio either, but who knows. I mean.. we ‘did’ get Pirates, Haunted Mansion, & Country Bears. Wouldn’t hurt to ask.

Since DINOSAUR is being fixed up before its impending doom, is it safe to re-throne Figment as "worst upkept attraction on property?" They were both pretty neck and neck for a while.
Considering the fact JIIWF generally has the least amount of stuff going on out of any attraction on property makes it an easy candidate for “worst upkept attraction”. Just another reason why this is the pinnacle of crappy design. Once an AA figure goes down, it automatically brings an already awkward experience to an abrupt halt. This ride only sort of works when everything functions flawlessly, and even then it sucks because of the atrocious writing

Yes! And I’d assume the animation seen in the original Literature scene too.
Admittedly, Andy Gaskill did some of the early character design work on Dreamfinder & Figment though (aswell as Tad Stones I believe) before X Atencio finalized their designs for the original, and they both were mainly in animation at the time so could’ve been either one of them too. Might be an interesting question to ask at some point. If anyone runs into them or decides to message them wherever they can be found. That’d be interesting to know
