EPCOT Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

Sorry for the bump, but the closure of Carousel of Progress the other night got me thinking. When Figment eventually closes, will they repeat the blunder of "Oh it's not that popular" and thus have insanity at the end of the night? Or do you think they'd know this one would be a big closing?

I think there will be a lot of people at the closure of Journey into Imagination with Figment.

They'll be wanting to make sure it goes.

Indeed, being seen exactly for what it is, one of the biggest shams in theme park history. The “whimsical Journey Into the realms of Imagination” that isn’t one anymore. Some “return/comeback”, Where Figment isn’t a creation of Dreamfinder’s made up from collecting & combining sparks of inspiration anymore, but a “discovery” that’s “Dr. Channing’s invention” but actually isn’t (pay attention to the queue and what happens when you board and see the first scene) and is seen as interference to his own ride (that actually isn’t anymore, it’s a Honey I Shrunk themed sensory testing institute), til the last minute or so. What the hell. Good riddance

I reiterate my point about hoping current management is not stupid enough to tempt fate by repeating history.
They are stupid but folks will keep coming and spending.

PS. They will keep making Toy Story sequels even after they stop making 1B at the box office.

Imagination's final day is gonna be very funny, I think it'll be a close to even split between the diehard fans celebrating that it's finally closing and the locals who just own a lot of Figment merchandise being sad about it and showing for the sendoff

It would be amazing if Josh announced 4.0 at D23. But, part of me thinks that either no one wants to be the fall-guy if the re-do is botched, or they make so much off Figment merch that it's not a priority.

I think the Locals that are sad about it, are also part of the Diehard fans...

Diehard fans of a Skunk Fart in the face? Sparsely themed rooms full of charts, doors, and tables. That replaced elaborate scenes that actually had something to do with creativity & the mediums that best encouraged said quality? Yeah, no.

The only way I see that truly happening is if they’re gaslighting themselves to think of it as the same experience as the original ride or if no promise of the original being restored with the enhancements we’d expect comes to light, simply because a purple dragon named Figment is there, it has the familiar song, and it takes place in the same building. Otherwise, there’s honestly nothing there. Here’s hoping the full development history behind these last 2 IP rethemed versions w deceptive titles comes out soon so that way we can finally put this truly despicably bad redo out to pasture, and hopefully this kind of thing never, ever happens again.

My son refused to go on it because of this.

I agree...it's so stripped down...just dying a slow death.
Honest to God, it is seriously ‘the’ worst ride redo we’ve ever seen in the company’s history. Legit. So, SO bad. You’ve never seen a character & experience so badly screwed up, mixed-up, & trivialized as you’ve seen here. It’s truly horrifying when you really look at it. It begs the question how they got away with this, let alone how they got these creative decisions passed. Nothing makes any sense at all when compared to its original incarnation. Take the 2nd most popular attraction in the park below Spaceship Earth, that sold the highest level of merch, and make it ‘THAT’. Just.. what even

It'd probably come with an announcement of the Seth Rogen project being a go and that'll probably end up dampening the enthusiasm since it raises the possibility that they're going to go full movie tie-in with it. And if the plot leak rumors I've read of the movie being a topical "Figment and Dreamfinder representing Human Imagination versus an AI obsessed Imagination Institute" metacommentary on the state of Hollywood aren't just a LARP, it gives them an excuse to keep the current setting.

Probably not the right thread but could you expound on that. Interesting.

4chan posts a few months apart so huge grain of salt since you're just as likely to get dumb Nintendo Direct fanfic type of stuff as much as you get disgruntled studio employees anonymously dumping a ton of production documents. The more detailed of the posts I saw was claiming a desire to cast Tom Hiddleston as the Imagination Institute chairman villain and trying to get Jenna Ortega as a "Dreamfinder's granddaughter" co-lead character to a 2D animated Figment.
Could be an interesting idea but even with Seth Rogen being very publicly anti-AI, I'm skeptical of the idea of Disney committing to an Anti-AI movie with how much talk there is of corporate wanting to rapidly implement it across the board.

Yikes, that sounds dreadful.

maybe but I would argue literally anything is better than the current version and also its not like they have much to lose besides the 5 minutes worth of wait. I just say give the new test track ppl this project as they knocked that out of the park. Plus any new figment would at the very least help balance out wait times, produce even more merch, and better ride then the current version.

Id also say as long as they make clear this is a new version and not them trying to just do a one for one recreation of the OG ride would make everyone happy bc that way they can't desecrate the greatness. plus a new figment doesn't need to do better than the OG, it just needs to be better then the current version. a low bar

also josh announces this and or new TL would immediately make him one of the most beloved ppl in Disney history

I have argued that in a sense that as unquestionably bad as the second version was, the third version could be considered worse in the sense that it was clearly just a half-baked way to try to hodge-podge two completely different styles and concepts and force them together in a way that has always felt forced and done as cheaply as possible. Why it managed to last twenty-five years is actually quite amazing and a testament to the hubris and stupidity of today's Walt Disney Company and its leadership.

On the one hand, 4chan "leaks" tend to be pretty accurate. I recall somebody on there managed to leak the plot of Scoob! before it was released.

On the other hand, today's Disney doing a film with a 2D-animated Figment? You know how Disney feels about 2D animation.
