since the princess and the frog is going to be in 2-D, and feature animation in flordia only did 2-D and refused to do computer animation, so is WDFA coming back to DHS?

I doubt it. They've removed most of the actual animation desks.

Disney figured that, in the end, it was a lot cheaper and easier to keep all their animators in one place.

Someone on the boards the other day said that WDFA didn't do the animation for Enchanted, is this true? If WDFA didn't do it, who did and why wasn't WDFA used?

Yes, it's true. The animation was outsourced to James Baxter Animation, but Andreas Deja did work on a couple of scenes. James is no stranger to Disney animation...he worked on Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and a couple of other Disney films.

Also, many of the WDW executive offices have moved into the office building portion of the Animation complex (the area you used to see into briefly when they turned off the LCD glass in the demo room)

WDFA is gone from Florida. The "studio" is now a play area for the animation building. Backstage, the animation offices and meeting rooms are used for WDW HR and management. Its sad really. I was back there a few months ago and remembered all of the talented and creative people that used to work their before being laid off.

Yeah, you have to remember that the Studios part of Disney-MGM Studios was always more of an afterthought, a token addition to give the theme park some illusion of legitimacy (as compared to Universal Studios Hollywood). Unfortunately, one studio in Orlando does not make a film industry, so there was little reason for productions to move any of their work there.

It's too bad, because most of the appeal of the park for me as a kid was the idea that MGM was a working studio.

Unless Disney moves all or most of their animation to Florida (ain't gonna happen), DHS will not be re-emerging as a production facility.

It would be nice if WDFA returned. I have read several stories that Enchanted is kind of a test to see how people respond to it. And that if response is positive, that IGER and Lassiter are interested in a larger, more extensive test. And then................

Here's hoping that Disney returns, at least in part, to it's roots.

I remember back in the late 90's when visiting MGM, they were actually filming in the Studios. You could watch while they filmed if you took one of the tours (not an additional pay type tour, it was an attraction type tour.) They were filming some sort of Xena type show. Does anyone remember this?
I agree though. The fact that they actually filmed and made movies / TV there made it even more exciting.

Not only did WDFA do both Mulan and Lilo and Stich there, I believe they did Tarzan and Treasure Planet there as well? I definitely miss seeing all of the animators working.

A bit off topic - but....

They used to film all the newer (take that as in the 90's) Mickey Mouse Club shows there - ahhh Britney, Justin, Christina, so on and so forth. I seem to remember a time or two that Home Improvement was filmed there as well - oh and Wheel of Fortune (when they did an "on site" couple of shows).

All back in the sound stages where Narnia/Walt Disney Story is.

It was not unusual either that while you were on the "what used to be" Backstage Tram Tour - the tour guide wouldn't be able to talk in certain sections as they were filming on various spots of the backlot.

Back in '94 we also went to one of the productions of Star Search where Who Wants to be a...used to be.

It really was a "working" studio back in the late 80's and early to mid '90's. You never really knew who (celeb) you might see on property - as they were there filming one thing or another.

Back on topic -
I fully remember taking the Animation Tour and watching them work on Mulan. It was very cool to see them working on something that was actually in production and wasn't going to be in theaters for several years.

Mulan and Lilo and Stitch were the only two films the florida studio made all by themselves. They helped produce many animated films for disney, but they mostly did secondary stuff for the burbank studio.

You forgot Brother Bear too (but that's okay, most people do :( ).

Ya know - I feel bad sometimes for not yet seeing this feature film, yet, I don't feel like I've missed anything. :veryconfu

I wish they would bring a few of the attractions from inside the Disney Animation attraction from DCA. It's kinda like JIImagination and the Animation Dept crossed paths.

They have some really cool voice over machines (of which I laughed so hard w/a friend of mine that we both started crying!). That would make it worth spending some time in there.

Let's not forget that Mulan (one of my favorites) came out of Florida, and I think Lili & Stitch.

I want my WDFA back!!!
you are right about lilo and stitch. and you forgot brother bear.

one reason it should come back: it is history in greatness! every film (excluding direct to video) between the rescuers down under to home on the range was worked there. in that list is BATB (only animated film to be nominated for best picture, it would of won, but stupid silence of lambs won and left beauty in second place) TLK (highest Grssing animated movie) TRDU (first animated movie produced without a camera) so it should come back
