FASTPASS or Single Rider Line vs. Ride Experience

Dear Folks,

I've seen several tips that say that the single rider lines at Disney and Universal bypass the queue area, but suggest that at least one ride skips a considerable amount of the "theming" that makes the ride worthwhile (Men in Black, Universal, http://allears.net/uni/tp/us/expo.htm).

Similarly, comments sometimes rave about how great the queue-line theming is ("there is PLENTY to see and focus on while you wait in line for Test Track"), but then say, without further comment, something like "a single rider line means your party will be separated, but you will bypass the inside queue and waiting time." (Both quotes are from http://allears.net/tp/ep/e_tt.htm.)

Questions:

1. Do you, in fact, give up anything in "ride experience" by using the singles lines? Does that vary from ride to ride?

2. Same questions, except applied to FASTPASS and Park Express at Universal? (I haven't seen anything that suggests that using those might harm the experience.)

3. Does anyone recommend, as to all or as to particular rides (which?), that you grit your teeth and bear the standby queue so as to get the full experience of the ride at least once?

There are rides which, in my opinion, the queue show is as good as, better than, or an unforgettable part of the ride and just wouldn't be as much fun or as memorable without them (Star Tours and Tower of Terror come to mind) and I'd hate to miss them (or create a spoiler for a second ride later in the day) just because I used FASTPASS or the singles line.

Many thanks, in advance.

The queues for Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids do a lot to tell the story and set the stage for what is about to come. However, since these two attractions tend to have long waits, I'd do the full queue once and then use FP or single rider queues going forward.

It really depends on how long the wait is. Disney is fantastic at theming and there is plenty to look at in the queues. However, it gets old after a while and if the wait is too long the single or Fastpass lines are the way to go.

I still have yet to do standby for TSMM and I know I am missing out on the Mr. Potato Head and other themes of the other rooms but at the same time I am not willing to spend an hour to see those rooms.

There are some good queues at WDW -- Exped. Everest being one of them -- that are worth the wait maybe once just once to say you've been through it, but I highly suggest you use FP and single rider as much as possible. Single rider at attractions like RnRC are fan-freakin'-tastic, and you really don't miss much of the queue themeing anyway.:D
