Expedition Everest- A One Sided Ride

It is standard practise at Disney parks not to extensively theme areas that are not guest facing. It is totally pointless spending millions of dollars on theming a rear facing wall. I would much rather see the money spent on areas I will see inside the park.

If it stays like that, I doubt it will stay that color. And there will probably be some landscaping added to block the views of the wall from outside of the park.

Edit: The other possibility is that they have just the wall in place so they can easily put the Yeti inside the mountain, and they will do the rockwork after that.

That was my first thought to: "Yeti access door!"

When you're driving or anywhere on ground level, the trees hide that wall, but they must have overlooked the view from BB...

It wont have been overlooked. It will have just been decided that the money is best spent where it is needed, on areas that guests inside Animal Kingdom will see. I fully agree with that decision.

First off, I wouldn't say one-sided...it's at least three.
If they do leave the back something like that, I would guess it would be more for access and maintenance rather than being cheap. The cost of "finishing" the back would be minimal to what already has been spent. The view of the backside isn't from a main approach, so I don't believe it would diminish the "weenie" function.

I agree with you, Steve, that the money should be placed where it is best suited (views from inside the park). I just hope that they realize that this wall is visible from certain locations outside the park and hopefully they'll paint and blend it.

On closer inspection, the pictures posted here (linking to laughingplace.com) weren't taken from BB, but rather from what appears to be the roof of the WDW Dolphin hotel. It would kind of disappoint/bother me to wake up in the morning, look out my hotel room window and see a big pink blob on the side of EE.

A view from Mt. Gushmore can be found here:

I'm sure they'll camoflauge it eventually.

The building is there to stay, they designed it so guests see a mountain from within the park, not from the top of Mount Gushmore. As much as I'd like to see the whole thing covered, it'd just be a waste of money.

I don't know why, if you look the other way you would see all of the unthemed backsides of the Epcot buildings. This is really nothing new.

yeah, but the "convincing interesting illusion" is not as much of a factor with those buildings, not to mention that they're a lot smaller. the back of a futureworld pavilion is not hurt by being metal and industrial, the world showcase buildings are generally low to the ground and anonymous

but imagine if the Tower of Terror was just a flat beige wall on the back, totally ruining the effect, and that's SUPPOSED to be a building, this is supposed to be a completely natural mountain, and the show should be maintained from all available angles

I guess it's slightly dissappointing.. but I guess it's just the "seperate building" for the Yeti because he produces so much force it could tear the mountain down. It'll be disguised enough anyways...

The Tower is a difference case, since it is very near to the guest entry to the park, and also backs onto a major road, and is not disguised by trees. The Tower does also have some unthemed areas, have a look at the bottom of http://www.wdwmagic.com/tower_photos.htm :)

Actually those pictures from laughing place were taken from the top of the swan.

Yeah, I'm sorry about that. Total lapse of memory. I was thinking about the second photo, which is a close up of the first.

Wasnt there a pic on here a week ago or so of the back of EE from I think over the roofs of Cornado Springs or something? I remember it being very obvious that you could see the plain wall from maybe any resort on property with enough floors to get you over the tree tops.

Yeah that is what started this thread. The pictures are about half way down the first page.

You're right, there are some spots on Tower that have no details whatsoever, just big, flat walls. You can actually see some of the empty wall on the left of ToT pretty clearly in the outside queue for Rock n' Roller Coaster.

All of these photos obviously have some 'digital zoom' taking place -- I'd bet that the wall is something you'd barely notice with the unaided eye.

Wow Steve. You're really passionate about this damn wall, aren't you? :D

LOL yes I am! :) The main reason being this: WDI create this masterpiece of an attraction, which is on a scale we havnt seen since Tower of Terror, and people are here complaining about an unthemed wall when viewed from relatively obscure locations around Walt Disney World. I really think we need to focus on what is important, and that is how great this attraction is going to be when experienced from its intended location - inside the park. I feel sorry for anyone from WDI who may be reading this thread, it's almost like nothing they do is ever good enough for some people.

Amen to that!
