Trip Report Everything Is Just So Peachy Keen! *COMPLETED*

It certainly was for us Georgia peaches this last week! For those who may be new here, let us introduce ourselves. We are Tuvalu and Em, a mother-daughter duo who love traveling together to Walt Disney World. We take multiple trips per year (this was our third for 2022) and for us, time spent at our resort is just as important to us as time spent in the parks. Slow-paced relaxation is vital to us!

I’m sure this laid-back vibe is what draws people to cruises: pools, bars, a variety of restaurants and activities from which to choose . I can’t do ships. But I can happily “land cruise” at WDW!

Hope you decide to follow along and learn about the surprises on our most recent voyage.

When: July 20-27, 2022
Where: Disney’s Yacht Club and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resorts

We had a slow move through the caves. I was truly perplexed as to why it was taking so long. We've done early standby for Rise before and it was never like this.

Eventually I had my answer.

The preshow with BB-8 and Rey was not in use. The doors were open and guests were walking straight through.

The IT-S transport ship was not in use either. Guests were being routed backstage.

My immediate feelings were twofold:

1. Cool!!! We were getting to go backstage. The preshows are my least favorite part of the ride anyway.
2. What a bummer for first-timers! The preshow scenes are critical to the storytelling of the attraction as they set up the mission (and capture) of guests.

I snapped away as quickly as I could and escaped any retribution from the First Order.

However I quickly discovered the downside to going backstage.

Those of you who have done Rise know the WOW moment when the doors on the transport ship open to reveal this:

Today no one got to experience the WOW. We entered the Stormtrooper hangar from the side, rather than the front.

Arrow below shows our entry into the hangar.

Rather than being faced by a slew of evil Stormtroopers, this was our entering view:

Certainly a let down, but I suppose if you didn't know any different.....

We had to take the requisite picture.

Then we got yelled at to "Move Along!!"

The rest of the attraction worked as it should, from the Interrogation Cell to the transport vehicles to Kylo at the end. (With the exception of this attraction’s “Yeti"— the cannons.)

I then understood how the teens were able to get through the attraction so quickly. We would have too, had we not been held up so long at the park entrance. We were unfortunate receivers of the domino effect.

Disney lost a lot of money from us on this trip because of the ridiculous overpricing of merchandise. Items we saw in April/May had increased by $5 or $10….obviously not a “supply chain issue.”

I bought a lot less than normal in the last few trips. Some of it was due to overpricing, even with AP discount, but also some of the merchandise is starting to look a little junky and no delivery to the resort anymore. I don't want to carry a bunch of stuff around all day. Maybe it will be fixed the next time I go, sadly B and I decided not to renew our APs. But the Disney company will still get our money, we are going to do Disneyland in November and Disneyland Paris this summer. It was a tough decision though to give up the APs.

So happy that you got to ride ROTR even if the pre-show/entrances were the normal part of the attraction. We found the wait times listed at MMRT to be not as long as the time posted too on our last trip. The prices for the merchandise are so ridiculous these days that we rarely buy much of anything. I've always said that if they reduced the prices to make things affordable to the average guest, they would sell so much more merchandise!

If WDW loses “super guests” like @Tuvalu they might as well board up the place.
The pandemic was nothing, but losing guests like @Tuvalu is a big problem!

Wow, that's weird! A shame for 1st time riders missing out on so much.

Thursday, con’t

What to do next?

I asked Em if she wanted to ride RnR or ToT (neither of which matter to me) but she said no. All three Toy Story attractions had crazy long waits, and it was too humid to queue outdoors.

“Wanna check out the stores on Sunset Blvd.?” I asked.

Em was game. We began with the shop closest to ToT and worked our way back up.

She was on the hunt for a specific tee she liked, but came up empty-handed here. (Spoiler alert — it wasn’t available in any store we visited that week, though a few had it on display! :banghead: )

We waited for the signal to change before continuing….

….even though the next shop was on the same side of the street.

We both saw tees we liked in the Majestic.

The tees were folded in piles and stacked on shelves. The pretty colors of two of them had caught our attention.

“They only have extra smalls,” Em said as she flipped her finger down one stack of shirts.

Knowing that neither of us can wear an extra small anything, Em pulled out one of the shirts anyway to see the design on it.

“This is an extra small?” we said simultaneously. We checked the tag. Unisex XS.

Thinking the tee was labeled incorrectly, Em pulled out a similar mint green shirt (with a different design) from another pile. This one was a medium, her usual size.

“Is it possibly a sleep shirt?” I wondered aloud.

Em then unfolded another XS in the peach color we liked. We were surprised to find it was only a half shirt (@riverside ‘s fave!)

Then it hit us.

These shirts were discreetly sized for fluffy guests, though there were no signs indicating that.

We left sad that none of them would work for us.

But Em was about to get happier.

On our last couple trips she had been on the hunt for the parks 50th anniversary mugs from Starbucks. They were always out of stock and Em refused to pay a reseller, since she had many Starbucks gift cards she wanted to use as payment.

“Want to check for your mug?” I asked as we approached the Trolley Car Cafe.

Em shrugged. “They won’t have it.”

“You won’t know for sure unless you check,” I said in my mother-knows-best tone.

It was too early for lunch so we decided to visit our Muppet friends. But as we passed the Hyperion Theater a cast member beckoned us, “Last call for the 10:30 show!”

Em and I glanced at each other. It had been awhile since we’d participated in the Frozen Sing-A-Long. Knowing we could immediately enter the auditorium into air conditioned comfort was a huge plus.

In we went.

It was a good decision. The show was a highlight of our day!

The Historians were fantastic. Lots of fresh dialogue and current jokes. Em and I *may* have sung along to a song or two.

And we were far enough in the back that when the snoap began to fall, we weren’t affected by it.

Lunchtime.

We mobile ordered. Turns out we really didn’t need to.

We didn’t consider eating al fresco. Indoors was the way to dine today.

Were the purse carrots eaten? Mine were.

While we were in Starbucks we’d noticed this cute Mickey chocolate chip cookie. Since Em was paying with one of her gift cards, she told me to get one and we’d share it for dessert.

We hadn’t had so much difficulty trying to consume a sweet treat since the Roaring S’more debacle of 2020. Just peeling off the paper wrapper was a challenge.

Looks like bread crust, doesn’t it?

The cookie itself was stuck to the bottom of the paper.

Of course by this point Em and I were in complete hysterics.

Dessert may have been a bust, but what we did next sure wasn’t.
