Great match. I really enjoyed watching it. My son was rooting for Spain as well, but he's been at a birthday party so I don't think he knows about the win yet.

I watched every single game from start to finish.

I started out wanting Spain to win (I think Germany likes to play "thuggish" most of the time), but by the end, I was cheering Germany on. I got so tired of the Spanish players flopping around from the start of the second half....it was disgusting. There should have been olympic diving judges out there instead of soccer officials.

The thing that ruins the perfect game of soccer are the floppers, divers and embellishers :(

IMO Germany took more than its fair share of cheap shots in the second half

Oh, there is no doubt about that...Germany is a physical team. But the embellishment by Spain at the end was silly. For a second or two there, I thought they were Italy.

No, but they have started their qualifier rounds for the 2010 World Cup.
Seeing how CONCACAF has staggered the teams, I see the US qualifying, but not much after that. The US is currently placed considerably higher by FIFA (at 21st worldwide) than Cuba (109th), Guatemala (91st), or Trinidad/Tobago (88th)

But if the US qualifies (ie- should there not be some freakish USA v. Mexico round), I don't see us doing much more afterwards. Last World Cup, we were the number 4 team on the planet. This time, not so much. In 06, our record was 0-1-2. Albeit the draw was with Italy, who ultimately won

I don't think it would matter if the US palyed Mexico in the qualifying round or not...the US have had their number for a few years now.

Who knows though...the US seems to perform well when nothing is expected of them and terrible when much is expected. Heck, they were only a blantant handball at the goal away from the semis in the world cup 6 years ago. They played very well against Argentina a few weeks ago, the number 1 team in the world right now.

But in essence, I agree with you. I don't think the US is really going to do much with their current coach. He seems to tinker too much with his roster and never seems satisfied with his midfield. Although, his son does seem to get a lot of playing time.

I get to see the US play Guatemala in Denver come November in the next World Cup qualifer, so I am excited to see that. I can't wait to see how Ruiz invents new ways to flop his body all over the ground. I also get to see Everton in Denver next month...that should be good too.
