Does anyone else forget the negatives?

I head to WDW about once a year. The remainder of the year I lurk a lot on this site and read so many negatives here. This is broken. That's the worst it's ever been. Service is slipping.... But then when the next trip comes up, all of the stuff that I had been reading just evaporates. I remember how it was in the early 80's. I miss the penny arcade, Horizons, world of motion, journey into imagination, mr toad, snow white's scary adventure and various others. But the second I'm back, I just enjoy being there.

It's a different experience now with three kids that have grown up going to Disney more often than I ever did as a child. They look forward to the 19 hour car ride, knowing that the destination is a week of fun at the end of the summer.

I realize that you can pick apart the parks pretty easily, but when it comes time for my vacation, I just enjoy it. I don't know if I'm viewing it through rose colored glasses, but I haven't had a bad trip. I haven't regretted spending a week there every year and I don't see than changing. I accept that the park will always be slightly different for better or worse. I may agree with what's being done or be totally against it. But, then again, when i'm on vacation, I don't care and I just enjoy myself. Except scooters, they always bother me :)

Oh of course I do. I don't care about as much stuff as many others do. I'm an optimist, plus I can see why disney are making the moves they are.
Are there some moves I don't like? Sure, there are, I don't like illumination's replacement from what's coming out of it, and I'm not much of a fan of incredicoaster, but those are just two things. Everything else is fine by me.

You think scooters bother you, you should feel the way that people that HAVE to use them feel about them. WE HATE THEM. We would give anything to just be able to walk around like we used to, and not be staring at someones butt all day, maybe even run, jump or dance. So forgive us when we think that anyone is judging us for using one. Maybe karma will step in and everyone will realize just how wrong they have been about them and their users. I see your "smiley face", so perhaps your just joking about that, but, even if that is the case, I felt obligated to negate the negative. The rest of your story is right on!

As a disabled person myself, I take no offence from his post. I don't see him commenting in a way that belittles the plight of genuinely disabled people, but rather the ongoing belief on here that too many people who don't need scooters get them.

We're all different though and we're all entitled to our views on different subjects. I'm certainly not criticising your point of view, I just believe the OP wasn't not thinking about the feelings of disabled people whereas the reply reads like you think perhaps he was. I do agree that looking at others backsides when using a wheelchair or scooter isn't usually fun though, except in some cases :)

Yes, and I mentioned in my last couple of sentences and implying that I really wasn't sure if he was just kidding (sarcastically) or serious so I wasn't really being a snot about his post, but, just took it as an opportunity to once again try and get the message across that the very idea of anyone thinking negative thoughts about a person that has no choice, but, to be in need of that assistance really shouldn't have to spend their day feeling paranoid that people are thinking they are in someway cheating a system. What absolutely most of them are doing is using a system that allows them to enjoy some of the same experiences as an able bodied person. It shouldn't be that hard to have people understand. But, it is. It was more of a message for those that looked at that final sentence, I quoted, and nodded their heads in agreement.

I am disappointed when my fav attraction is down or replaced. I hate arriving to find longer lines and larger crowds than on previous trips. I dont like some of the decisions the ones in authority make. But all in all its my vacation, its the trip Ive saved for, its the time Ive been waiting to enjoy, its all the fun and adventure Ive been anticipating for so long. Theres no way Im going to let any hint of negativity in. I will let nothing bother me, disrupt my time or enjoyment. Later on when Ive arrived home I may think about the little things that may have annoyed me, but thats well after the trip is over and didnt affect my time for one millisecond. I've never had a disappointing trip or one that I wasnt happy with.

That's fair enough. Often at the airport people stare when I leave the courtesy wheelchair to get the luggage at baggage reclaim. I'm lucky in that I can walk but struggle walking long distances especially after travelling for 18 hours, yet I sometimes get disapproving glances as I think if they believe I can walk at all that I shouldn't be using a wheelchair.

I feel the same way. I never notice the lightbulbs in one corner of the hotel that might be broken or the supposed peeling paint or grumpy CMs. I just go and have fun! And it helps me to still feel the magic and enjoy when magic comes to me :)

I am totally with you on your post.
If I have complaints about Disney I make them honestly and openly before and after the trip. However, when we go on our every two year vacation everything is positive for the 10 days we are there.

Negativity is bottled up and we just enjoy every minute.

I have stage IV COPD and do not use a scooter. But when and if the day comes I won't apologize or be made to feel guilty about using one. If people abuse the system that is on them.

I don’t think any of us judge people that need a scooter, but it is kind of odd, when an entire family is on one, together, in a line. Or wearing high heels, and getting off scooter to go smoke, for a party. I know, I don’t judge, just by someone being on a scooter- that kind of stuff, seems like abusing the system. I smoke and have for a long time. At the very least, I will most likely, at my own choice, have to at least cart around oxygen one day. If I do, it will not be in heels, riding a scooter, and hopefully I will have finally put the cigarettes down. I don’t think, again anybody just outright judges people using scooters. Maybe I am wrong, but I know, I only do, if the person seems to be blantanty abusing the right to use one.

For the original post. I love the world, and I do not concentrate on the negative. Nobody should. Way easier to have a good time, than a bad one. ;)

Exactly the same problem I have. I guess I sometimes over do it on the comments, but, it is so disappointing that anyone would even spend a moment of their valuable time attempting to make guess about the physical needs of others. It is sad thing that society has got that problem.

Are things different? Yes. Could things be better? Obviously. I'm no sunshine-pumper. I miss plenty of things that are bygone, and I get frustrated when rides are down. However, the good still outweighs the bad by a substantial margin.

I just did a three-generation trip that included a 3 year old, a pair of 66 year olds, and a wife who isn't a huge Disney person (like the rest of us are). And EVERY SINGLE PERSON HAD A BLAST. All the fretting over ADRs and Fastpasses; the notoriously fickle Florida weather; and all of the variables that go into a WDW vacation - they all go away when you get in the bubble. We had an absolute cluster of a day on Day 2 at MGM. By the flight home, I had forgotten all about it because of how great everything else was. Maybe if I went 2-3 times/year, it would be different. But I go every 2-4 years, and I love it. And as long as my family does as well, I don't see that changing.

Because making my daughter, my wife and my parents happy at my happiest place on earth is something that I just cannot do anywhere else.

Tell you what, we'll arrange to meet up sometime in Disney and then go around together staring at all the none disabled people with disapproving looks and make them feel bad for a change. Then I'll pay for lunch and you can pay for desert, we'll teach those pesky able bodied folk a thing or two :)

Sounds like a plan. Slight alteration though, you pay my way in and I'll buy lunch and dessert. Seems fair since you are probably faking your disability and are just lazy (I know these things). I on the other hand want and deserve some real sympathy and understanding. ;):):in pain::joyfull:
Being old (get off my lawn age), I can do a very refined disapproving look. It ought to be fun.:grumpy:
