Do you "move in" to your room?

I always say I'm going to put all of our clothes and shoes into the dressers and closets, but the excitement over finally being at WDW is so strong that we're usually bolting out of the room so we can start enjoying our vacay. I mean, who wants to sit in their room folding and putting away clothes when they could be on their way to a park, heading to DTD, going to an ADR, or exploring their resort?

Still, I can sometimes feel claustrophobic in the hotel rooms...especially if I spend a week having us all live out of 4 large suitcases + carryons. So, I'm seriously considering taking the time to "move in." It's a warm weather trip, so I plan on ziplock bagging outfits for the kids to make things easier (helped a lot with our last warm weather trip), but I still don't know.

So, do you "move in" or do you "live out of your cases?" And do you have any tips for either?

We "move-in"....I take time when we arrive to put all my toiletries into the bathroom and set them up just as they are at home. I take 2 drawers and save 2 for my husband and unpack my suitcase. Then I hang any clothes that need to be hung in the closet. I also utilize the wall safe for keys, x-tra $$ and anything else I don't want to keep out in the open. Once we are all...."moved-in" and our room feels like ours, we head into the park. It is nice to come "home" to our resort and have everything in it's place especially if it is in the wee hours of the morning and all we want to do after a day in the park is hit the sack. :)

We move-in too. But, normally all we hang is my daughter's princess dresses. She brings several, along with shoes and accessories. She loves opening up the closet and seeing them hanging along with matching jewelry, crowns, wands, gloves, . . . - you get the idea! To her, it's a very magical experience and makes her feel like one of the princesses that live at WDW.

We also Zip-Loc outfits! It really is helpful.

I have never been an unpacker. I tend to do it more as I go. I also intend on ziplocking everything. I bought some of the larger ones at the dollar store for my husband and I's clothes. Just pull one out and you have a days clothes. So we will see. I can't stand clutter though so I tend to organize our room every morning while I am waiting for everyone to wake up and get around. I am always up first, so I get my shower, get dressed, grab a coke or coffee and then start throwing stuff out and putting dirty clothes away and putting shoes where they can easily be found. So OCD. :)

I only "unpack" the bathroom stuff. We hang a few things up also, but that's it. I want to get to the fun! :)Unfortunately, this does make for a VERY messy hotel room, especially now that we have children. It probably would be wise to unpack, but I just can't bring myself to spend my time doing it.

Thanks everyone one for the baggie idea. I always packed in baggies for the kids, but never thought to baggie each outfit individually. o_O

My husband moves in to the point of the ridiculous. All nice shirts and pants hung perfectly in the closet, all other clothes set neatly in the drawers, all toiletries either set out in the bathroom or left in his toiletry bag on shelf under the sink. Me, I live happily out of a suitcase (a neat suitcase but a suitcase none the less.) All my toiletries are kept under the sink in either a cosmetic bag (closed) or one of those travel kits that hold about 20 pounds. All extra money, IDs, my jewelry and anything valuable goes into the safe. The room is kept immaculate at all times. When we leave the room in the morning, any and all trash is put in waste cans, the coffee mugs and machine are cleaned, all used towels are put in a pile in the bathroom, the bed is almost made and no clothing is seen. I love coming back to a really clean room.

I've done both. It depends on how long I'm staying in the room, how much space there is, etc. Even when I "move in" moving in usually consists of five minutes of throwing clothes in drawers. A lot of times I live out of the suitcase while the rest of my group moves in to save space. I kind of pull things out as I need them. Usually if I'm staying 5 nights or less, I don't move in.

I would think that depends on how much space you have and how large your suitcases are. If you have a lot of free space with the suitcases, then maybe you can live out from the case but if not, you're better off using the drawers, I think. Granted, I've only the experience of living in a value resort room but I just felt given the size of the room, I thought I'd be better off putting things in the drawers. Why? I didn't want to trip over the suitcases or have the possibility that I may scrape myself out of the blue because of the placement of the suitcase. Bear in mind, it was a very large suitcase, I might add! So I just put mine on the rack near the bathroom. I recognize heavy lifting of a suitcase may not be applicable for all people but I'd rather place my suitcase that will cause the least potential of harm than leave it on the floor where something crazy can happen to me. Having said that, I like to move in and unpack. I mean, you get the "Welcome Home" greeting for a reason, right?

Oh so totally move in! LOL As soon as I hit the room I take the 15 minutes to hang up my clothes, put what I need to in drawers, hide the suitcases and put up the normal stuff on the bathroom shelf. I do not want anything reminding me that alas....yes you eventually will have to go home  So I hide the suitcases and make the room look like I live there - even if just for a week to get the full feeling of being there! :)

We usually unpack, unless we're only staying for a few nights. I don't usually do it the second we get in to the room, though. Since we let DME handle our bags, they're often not in the room yet when we arrive. We'll unpack our carry-on luggage, and if necessary, change clothes before heading out. Then when we get back in for the night and our luggage is there, we'll unpack the rest before turning in.

I believe in moving in, but my hubby dies not. So, the kids & I unpack and settle into the room. Then our empty suitcases are used as hampers while DH has his clean laundry swimming in the same case as his dirties. Do you need any other argument?

This might not work for you, but it works for us since it's just the two of us. It seems that the last few rooms we've stayed in have had a three-drawer dresser. I take one, he takes one, and then the third gets the dirty clothes. That way even if some things are left in our suitcases, there is no co-mingling the fresh clothes with soiled.
