DME and arriving at night

Happy New Year everyone! So, my next trip begins in exactly 7 days! :sohappy: We are flying out on the 9th at 6pm, which puts us at MCO at approximately 8:30 pm. Should we just pick up our own luggage instead of waiting for DME to deliver to the resort? Since we're arriving at night, do they knock and wake you up when they deliver the luggage? Being that we are arriving on a Monday evening, I can't imagine they are very busy and I wouldn't think that it would take very long to get our luggage delivered, but I don't know if it's worthwhile to use that service, since it's not like we'll be heading out to any parks after we check in. Opinions?

Letting DME delivery your luggage is definitely easier, but you may want to grab it on your own. They stop picking up luggage at 10pm so if they are behind, you may not get it until the next morning. If you want your luggage delivered, I would suggest you pack a smaller bag of things you will need that night and the next morning and taking it with you. This way if you don't end up getting your luggage that night it won't be a big deal. On my last trip this past November, we didn't know they stopped delivering at 10 and we didn't get it until around 11:30 the next morning. Was a real bummer to get such a late start.

If you're not planning on heading to the parks that evening, you're probably better off waiting for your luggage and taking it with you. They usually take two to three hours to deliver it, but can take longer. If you don't need any of your checked luggage until morning, you can tag it and ask Bell Services to hold it until you call them in the morning, it generally only takes 10-20 minutes after you call for them to deliver.

If you intend to pick up your bags yourself, do not use the yellow luggage tags they sent you.

What Monty said! If you want Disney to deliver your luggage, but are worried you'll be asleep when they do, just ask Bell Services to hold it until the following morning, then call and have them bring it up when you want it.

However, if you're not in a rush and don't mind waiting, go pick it up yourself. Just make sure you don't use the yellow tags, or you'll be "that person" standing at the carousel waiting for luggage that's never going to come out.

I would just pack what you need for that night and the next day in your carry-on, and let Disney do the rest. (If you think they will disturb you from your slumber, just ask them to hold your bags until the next day.)

Whenever I fly into MCO, I always arrive at night, and I never have issues.

Even though it is a Monday ... DME will be busy!!! They will put multiple resorts on the same bus & it takes FOREVER at night. We made 4 stops before we got to our resort - CSR (5th stop) in November :brick: We did get our own luggage at the airport which was no big deal ... it was just DH & I.

Have a magical trip:wave:

We're actually doing carryon only in February because I dont want to deal with the luggage issue. DH, 13 year old twins and I will each have one piece of carryon.

I dont like arrving late and dealing with late luggage, of course it does help that we have Owners Locker with our locker being delivered to the BW the day we arrive and we do store clothes and toiletries there so taht makes the carryon work.

Thanks for the responses!! I think we will end up hauling our luggage ourselves. I get cranky if my sleep is disturbed (yes, even in the most magical place on Earth) and who knows if we'll have the patience to wait for bell services to bring them up in the morning. Plus, we're girls with lots of girly equipment and you never know what you're going to need. We're strong, we can be pack mules.

Thanks again!
