Today the Disney Parks Blog announced the brand-new Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe, which will open early next year on Main St. USA. The blog entry has additional details about the planned expansions on Main Street:

Tomorrow marks the start of very exciting expansion projects on Main Street, U.S.A., at Disneyland park. We’re getting ready to welcome a new bakery and looking forward to expanded space in some of our existing eateries.

The expansion kicks off with the all-new Jolly Holiday Bakery Café. The bakery will be located on the current site of the Plaza Pavilion, which recently hosted the Annual Passport Processing Center. The new location will feature an expanded menu, as well as outdoor seating. When Jolly Holiday Bakery Café opens in January 2012, the Blue Ribbon Bakery will close to make way for the next step in the Main Street, U.S.A., project.

We’re also excited to announce that, for the first time in decades, Carnation Café will once again offer indoor seating to Disneyland park guests, increasing the total number of seats and giving guests more options for experiencing this iconic restaurant year-round. Carnation Café will close for this refurbishment at the beginning of 2012 and re-open in the summer.

Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor and the Candy Palace display kitchen will also be gaining additional space. The newly reconfigured ice cream parlor will create more room for guests purchasing the extremely popular hand-dipped cones, and a larger Candy Palace kitchen will allow even more guests to view magical sweet treats as they are created. These locations will close in January 2012 and re-open in the spring.

Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog – we’ll have more details on this project as it develops.

Interesting.

The AP center was taking up prime real estate. While I love the Blue Ribbon bakery, a large spot would be most welcome.

Gibson ice cream usually has ridiculously long, slow-moving lines. Hopefully this expansion will help fix that.

I like eating outside, but the indoor seating expansion is also a great idea for Carnation. I know my friends will be sad that it will be closed for Bats Day next year, but I look forward to seeing the new Main St USA.

I've hated to see the old Plaza Pavillion used for AP processing. Restoring it to a food location is just what the hub area needed! I still miss ice cream from Carnation Gardens. Finally a wasted location being restored into what it was meant to be. Sweet! No pun intended either!

Nice. Even though its only an eatery, its nice to see a Mary Poppins related addition. For such a timeless, classic Disney film, it is sorely unrepresented at the parks outside of parades and meet and greets.

Speaking of mary poppins My sister and I were at DtD, and a store(forgot where it was ) in CA as we live here and she says (as big as a "fan" ) as she is she remembers mary poppins looking different.

Did they change er look for some reason, i figured Id ask just to see, and most of you will be" WTH is he talking about " LOL i wish i took a picture

I COMPLETELY agree. This looks wonderful. I hope WDW will get something like it as well. (And it'd be so nice to have a place that serves GOOD coffee. The Writer's Nook coffee at WDW is...not so nice. :p)

I don't even mind that it is slightly inconsistent with Main Street USA, with Mary Poppins being a British character. I can picture it mixing well with the surrounding area, especially because the central hub is sort of a transitional location.

I love that weather vane! I put the note below in the Refurb thread a few days ago, but it probably belongs here instead.

Al Lutz had a blurb on Miceage about the delay at the baker and the new opening date...

EDITOR’S NOTE 12/9: ...Over at Disneyland, the original goal to get the Jolly Holiday Bakery open next week for Christmas crowds has slipped - now it's scheduled to debut Jan. 6. - Al Lutz

Jolly Holiday Bakery officially opens on Jan 7.

As we told you last August, some exciting changes are coming for Main Street, U.S.A., at Disneyland park – and the first of those changes is almost here! On Saturday, January 7, Jolly Holiday Bakery Café will officially open its doors. The new bakery, located at the top of Main Street, U.S.A., will feature your favorite bakery and coffee items in addition to a new menu of sandwiches and salads.

And tomorrow, January 5, we will begin the next phase in the transformation of the area when Carnation Café, Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor and the Candy Palace will close temporarily to receive their own expansions and updates. Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor and the Candy Palace will re-open in the spring, both with expanded indoor space. Carnation Café will re-open in the summer, when it will once again offer indoor seating to Disneyland park guests.
We’ll keep you updated here on the Disney Parks Blog as these expansions continue to take shape

I was just about to post about the possible soft opening lol. It would make since a lot of Main Street's food facilities(Blue Ribbon, Gibson Girl, Candy Palace, and maybe even Refreshment Corner) are about to get their refurbishments starting tomorrow.

I love the penguin stained glass!

I'm excited to grab a bite at the Jolly Holiday soon! Will definitely miss Carnation over the downtime, though... and they better not touch my steak melt on the menu! :slurp:
