Disneyworld really lacks in the food quality department

I agree with ddbowdoin. I'm from a small town in the Midwest and we are stuck with fast food and chain restaurants. Because of this we look forward to the variety we find in WDW restaurants. We enjoy barbecue at Flame Tree in AK and Whispering Canyon and seafood at Cape May. We really love Rose and Crown. Personally I think the Burgers are fine at WDW. Obviously we aren't eating at the same McDonalds. Their quality is way worse than it used to be and I would definitely choose WDW burgers over McDonalds any day. Now the fries are another story. McDonalds fries are still the best.

They could use horse, all the flavour and fewer health issues.

Disneys food in the parks continues in a downward trend. Thats why I will go to resort eateries and just snack during daylight hours.

I always found horse to have a rather strong flavor and it also tends to be rather chewy.

Now as many an aficionado of “Asian” cuisine will tell you, dog and pigeon if prepared correctly can be succulent indeed.

When we lived in Sardinia there were several very good equine butchers.

Donkey was a bit chewy but I liked the flavour.

Pigeon was a popular dish with my great aunt, and given how fat some of the local ones are I'm sure theyd be even better value now.

I have had good burgers and WDW and bad burgers at WDW. But truly, I don't have either of them more than once in a week-long trip, because there are so many other more interesting options at WDW. Why opt for a burger or hot dog when you can get rotisserie chicked or a corned beef panini at Sunshihne Seasons, barbecue ribs at Flame Tree, some decent salads at Cosmic Rays, etc? Disney parks are the only ones that I actually enjoy eating at. The food isn't cheap, but there's at least an attempt to do better than the typical fast food joint. Sure, there are some misses, but far more hits.

As for the sit-down restaurants, the menus have indeed become blander and less interesting over the years. Spoodles, Tony's, Akershus, San Angel Inn, and many others have gone from being place I enjoyed eating at to places I avoid (or in the case of Spoodles, closed). But again, I still find interesting options at the parks and resorts. Again, the prices are steep, but I actually enjoy eating at WDW.

Yeah, but much like any animal, if fed garbage they tend to taste like garbage.

the QS is nasty! i would much rather have MCdonalds then disney, i was so happy when they opened up a Mcdonalds fry stand at disneyland, that was the only place i'd eat after that, even though it was like 4-5bucks for frys. but thats DL not Wdw

we upgraded to the DxDDP this time cuz we dont like the qs.the breakfast was gross i don't really care for the steaks at disney eather(never had a 2 credit steak), they all seem like wal mart meat, gray and stringy.
even though its disney and people want great food, its still a theme park and its always gonna be overpriced for what its worth

The prices, yes...are very high for the type of food. But you're a captive audience in a theme park, what do you expect? All theme park, airport, etc...food is going to be higher priced because it's so easily accessible.

The only issue I have with this rationale is that an airport is not a destination. I choose to go to Disney and spend many days there, I expect more from the food than I would from the airport I'm simply held up in between flights. I'd be a captive audience in a prison but not at Disney.:)

I loathe McDonald's. But I'll take a quarter pounder over a Disney burger any day. Disney does a really poor job with burgers.

Because the bad publicity from one food poisoning lawsuit is worth more than thousands of guests who don't really enjoy the burger that they weren't expecting much from in the first place. The point of going to McDonald's is to get a burger, so they've perfected their "craft," while the point of getting a quick-service meal at Walt Disney World is to get it done quickly and get on with your enjoyment of the park.

Side note: As a former employee of a McDonald's restaurant and, later, the McDonald's corporate headquarters in Oak Brook, IL, I can assure everyone that their meat (unlike Taco Bell) is actually 100% beef.

Does anyone else slightly discredit any thread that starts by referring to "Disneyworld" (one word)?

We ate at a variety of places- fast food (counter service), sit down, resort restaurants, etc. We were very disappointed in the food quality, especially the counter service locations with the hamburgers and hot dogs. For the prices they charge you would expect something that is at least on par with McDonalds.

Anyone else agree?

Other than a dinner we had at Akershus, we have loved every sit-down meal we have ever had at WDW. Some are more gourmet than others, but all have been delicious. As for counter-service meals, with reasonable expectations, we've never been disappointed, and they certainly surpass any meals we've ever had at McDonalds (with the exception of Pizza Planet, but then again, we're used to NY pizza). To each their own!

I really can't agree here. We love the food at Disney World! Obviously the TS meals are much better than CS meals, but we've had very few bad meals altogether. It's one of the main things we look forward to on our trips!

for people to say that the food is one of the things they look forward to the most... will always boggle my mind.

Look where you live, and look where other people live.

You have easy access to good (and some great) non-chain restaurants (As do I)

Try going to somewhere in the US that is an hour drive from any major city. You are going to find Friendly's, Red Lobster, Outback Steakhouse, Appleby's, and TGI Fridays.

For many people WDW provides easy and ready access to decent dining.

And

For those who don't travel on a regular basis, WDW provides a 'safe' selection. While you may not have a mind blowing meal at a WDW restaurant, you are also not going to have a completely horrid one either. I have been in cities where I have not been able to do any research beforehand and just picked a place blind (I still do that in the Times Square area as restaurants there open a close on a daily basis). Sometimes it is great. Other times I am yacking up bad seafood all over a hotel bathroom.

I'm glad to see other people agree. When I went in December of '09, I had heard so many good things about Pecos Bill's that I had assumed the burgers were different. So we went, I ordered one, and it was the same disgusting patty that everywhere else had. Waste of a CS credit.

2009 was the year Pecos Bill went very bad. It was good up until then.
