Disney's Streaming Services: Disney+ (and Hulu, ESPN+, Star, & hotstar)

Anyone following the rights story for cricket in India? The auction ended and another company got the streaming rights while Disney got the TV rights for $3 billion.

Not sure how this affects it airing, but presumably means Disney gets something out of it, even if Disney+ doesn't. Hope it's worth the $3 billion as Disney's stock continues to drop and the India ARPU is amongst the lowest AFAIK.

IPL rights outside India (maybe including the subcontinent), Australia, and the UK... Are essentially worthless. Not a big sport in the US by far, and while it was a nice to have on ESPN+, it wasn't anything special. Would rather Disney take the money they're saving and put it to more football or cricket content.

This shouldn't be a big deal for Disney as a whole. While total numbers of Subs looks good while it's climbing, as you said, the ARPU is very small for those subs. It would behoove Disney for subs to increase in areas where the subscribers can pay more.

But... right now, investors are obsessed over total sub numbers. Netflix's decline in subs hurt D+ even tho D+ increased in subs!

And if Disney paid an exorbitant amount just to goose their subs, Wall Street would have dinged them for overspending.
