Disney's Hollywood Studios to host an opening night event to celebrate the Force Awakens

It does not cover concessions or food and beverage. They are only saying that those things will be open. It is not covers in the cost.

First I said "if". Second, it doesn't say it doesn't cover the cost of those items either. Neither of us knows for sure. But even if it doesn't, I return to agreeing with others that this is more than doing a mere cost-benefit analysis. It is an opportunity for the SW fan to be among the first to see the film and go to a party at HS.

I'll end up doing that too just because I won't have the opportunity but would if I had the chance. But this IS a SW fandom opportunity. It's worth it to those who want to be among the first to see it. Don't knock those who want to go. No one is "forcing" you to go.

I'm not knocking anyone. I would do it in a heartbeat if $400 for a family of 4 were affordable to me.

Two questions:
1) Will we still be able to buy regular tickets to the 7pm or midnight showings?
2) Will this be the debut for the Launch Bay or should it open prior to this?

1) It sounds like the first two showings (possibly 7:00 and 9:00?) will be ONLY for this event. The later showings will be open to the general public. I would think all theaters will be used for the two showings.

From the FAQ:
Will I still be able to see “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” at AMC Disney Springs™ 24 theatres if I don’t attend this event?
Yes. Visit amctheatres.com or the AMC Disney Springs™ 24 theatres box office for later show times and details.

2) Not sure. I read earlier that this was the official opening of the Launch Bay, but I don't see that anymore. I was told months ago that they wanted it open in November, so they'd be WAY behind if it weren't open until mid-December.

There should be more than one theater for the first showing around 7:00. There might even be a showing every 30-45 minutes. Plus there are three different ways to see the movie at Disney Springs (2D, 3D and 3D ETX)

Yes, the rest of the sentence:
I would think all theaters will be used for the two showings.

So DHS will have a nightly firework show themed to Star Wars in 2016? Am I reading this correctly? Was this already announced?

Yeah, I'm trying to find that out, as well. I have no interest in the post-party because I'm taking my son with me to see it and am hoping for some earlier showings than midnight so he can still go to school the next day. I'd be perfectly happy to pay a premium for the early showtime only (say $20-30), but $100 for a party I wouldn't be going to is out of the question.

Trying to find out showtimes at other local theaters and was told by one "we don't know" and another "we're not allowed to say what the showtimes are until after the trailer airs tonight."

Regardless, expect long wait times and crashes when trying to purchase tickets tonight (UK and other international markets are already for sale and have been experiencing crazy problems all day).

Tickets supposedly go on sale in the US immediately after the new trailer shows at halftime during tonight's Monday night football game.

All the info is on "cyber lockdown" until then

Just stop already....absurd? We all spend money on things someone else might find absurd. I wouldn't pay two pennies to see some of the new music groups that perform.....any ticket to a major sporting event. I say to each his own.

Not to start an argument or anything, but just to make a point: It's not about "taste." It's about offerings and cost. This isn't about Star Wars fans vs non-Star Wars fans or whether any of the people commenting think Star Wars is cool. It's that you're paying $80 for 4 hours in a park riding Star Tours, Launch Bay, and seeing Fireworks, all of which are available as part of the regular park admission and can be experienced almost any day. They're basically charging an arm and a leg because fans will be hyped up on all-things Star Wars and just want an excuse to celebrate the new film. If Disney was really doing this for fans, it either wouldn't be so expensive or would feature more one-time-only exclusives.
