I made my first return visit to DHS this afternoon amidst the crazy heat; but I really needed to get out of the house. A few observations on my first day back at this park since the re-opening
  1. - As feared, lots and lots of guests are doing everything they can to bypass the mask rules.
    1. In the queue for MMRR, it felt like nearly 25% of those in line had decided they should use this opportunity to get food and drink and take their masks off 'because they were eating' while in the queue. They were just chomping away at whatever it was they had and made no pretense, they just took the masks off. -This cannot be allowed to continue
    2. Countless guests just sit down on a random bench and take their masks off.-This cannot be allowed to continue
    3. Only once did I see a CM correct a group that was doing this and tell them they had to put the masks back on while sitting at a table on Galaxy's Edge
  2. Countless people just cannot seem to grasp the basic concepts of distancing. They are just walking randomly all over the place with zero regard for anyone else around them. If you are coming up to a curve in the path and the curb is on your right, those coming at you will come so close I had to jump up on the curb multiple times to maintain distance.
    1. I lost count of the number of times I had to look behind myself in a queue to find the group behind me was inches away and totally ignoring the well-marked separations on the floor/ground. Oblivious guests will cause conflicts in the queues by not paying attention to the distancing requirements.
  3. Disney has absolutely no protocol in place when an attraction breaks down. The Plexi barriers in queues do not go all the way to the floor, they stop at the bottom cross-rail of the railing between the lanes. The minute the attraction shuts down, half the people in the queue sit down on the ground/floor and now there is no physical barrier between the people in adjacent rows.
  4. In addition to everyone sitting on the ground, they are actually telling people to make their way back to the entrance of the attraction if they do not want to wait. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to maintain distancing if someone actually does this but that was the non-recorded announcement made on Slinky Dog this afternoon. -This cannot be allowed to continue
The bottom line of this all is that Disney has put in most of the right protocols but far too many selfish guests are going to totally screw this up because it's all about them and they just keep ignoring the rules. If guests keep flouting the rules, we are going to have issues that will in the end have a very, very negative impact on the whole thing.

And before you try to go off on me that "It's hot out" don't waste your time. I know exactly how hot it is, I was there and I live in this climate. If you are unwilling or unable to follow the rules, please do not visit the parks- you are going to screw it up for everyone else including the CM's. Just do not go if you are unwilling to follow the rules.

Having said all of this, over the course of 5 hours in the park this afternoon I managed to get on Runaway Railway, Slinky Dog, Swirling Saucers, Star Tours and Rise of the Resistance in addition to having lunch at Backlot Express. I enjoyed the low crowds but the behavior of selfish and oblivious guests will likely make me rethink my future visiting plans.

I had a great experience 2 weeks ago at the MK for AP previews. Everyone was doing what they were supposed to. However this weekend I hit EPCOT and Universal and both were a complete S show in regards to guests following the rules. Universal was definitely way worse though.

Sad to hear about the decline in guest behavior. I think we are seeing something similar to what happened at the start of the shut down. After the first couple of weeks of following the rules people are now getting "bored" and deciding to just do what the heck they feel like. Hopefully Disney can stamp it out.

I also think HS having longer waits is part of the issue here as well. When you are walking around, going ride to ride with minimal waits you're not thinking of the mask. When you are stuck in a 45+ minute queue you are thinking of the mask. This is especially true if the ride breaks down and you are stuck in a single space for an extended amount of time. The mask just becomes another irritant on top of the waiting.

I think all the complaints (and they are legitimate) just further prove the truth no one wants to hear: going to Disney right now is a completely unnecessary venture for families or individuals.

Although I am surprised the mask compliance seems to be deteriorating. I had zero issues keeping it on for about 6 hrs in blazing heat and only took it off when I stepped to the side to drink something real quick.

Passing close to people on an outdoor pathway isn't really a concern either unless they aren't wearing a mask and cough or sneeze on you.

Whether it’s a concern to you or on a scientific basis really doesn’t matter. Disney has the rules set up and all need to follow them so others feel safe. If they don’t want to do it, then walk them out of the park.
If someone was smoking away from everyone and it really wasn’t a concern as you put it because no one can get the second hand smoke, it still is wrong.

I’m glad to hear what I experienced at Studios may not be happening at other parks. I saw a Twitter post from the owner of BlogMickey this afternoon expressing the same frustrations I expressed above which indicates there are some adjustments needed at DHS. He indicated his experience was so concerning he felt it necessary to leave the park and stopped at Guest Services to share his experiences. There is more work needed to get the proper controls in place and aggressively enforced at DHS.

On the flip side, the wait times were amazing.

I didn’t experience any of these issues when I was at the Passholder preview at MK last week.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience and can guarantee I would have felt the exact same way you did if people were behaving that way near me. Luckily, I was at DHS yesterday morning just long enough to ride Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway and get a zone 4 boarding pass for Rise. After that I boarded the Skyliner and left without having to experience any of these issues.

I don't disagree. I was responding from the standpoint of the poster being uncomfortable.

At DHS right now and got in park at 9:40am for 10am opening. Went straight to MMRR, wait was listed at 45 minutes. I was watching mask and distance compliance very carefully after reading reports here (and taking notes). At 9:53, we saw our first person with a mask down. Older woman on her phone. She is the only mask non-compliant we have seen in two hours. Got into the ride at 10:10, so 30 minutes and only one individual with a mask down. Didn’t see anyone not obeying distance rules. Very glad as we were quite wary. Got boarding group 15 and just got called. Will update later.

Rise went down about 5 minutes ago (12:05). We saw the Rey preshow twice, then had an extended shuttle pre-show (Nien Numb and Calamarian go through multiple checks of everything. Now waiting in main hanger. Groups have all been individually taken to waiting spots 6+ feet from each other. Angle of the picture makes it look worse than it is.

We definitely each have a 6ft bubble if not larger. First Order officers are escorting groups to bathrooms as needed. Everyone is fully masked and just waiting.

I can understand the OP's concern. But if someone feels that way, then maybe they should rethink going to WDW at all until the present set of circumstances are over. There will always be people who don't follow the rules whatever they are. I can't see this changing anywhere right now. If I felt that way, I would leave and go back when I felt it was safer. That's why I am not going to WDW until covid stablizes and all is returned to normal. We all have choices in this present covid atmosphere. It looks like disney is doing all they can to ensure safety, on their part. but other's actions will always be a problem.IMO.

I was also at DHS on Sunday and I respectfully disagree with some (I didn't deal with any breakdowns) of these points.

First, I never saw anyone walking around (queue or pathway) without a mask. At least no one that was memorable for me to notice. I think there is (and always will be) a little bit of that here and there that is unavoidable. If someone pulls their mask down for a second to take a drink and then puts it back up that is different (and more acceptable) than someone using a bottle as a prop to avoid mask wearing.

Second, I saw some guests sitting at a table without food/drink. There was no one within 20 feet of them and they had just taken off their masks. A CM quickly came over and ask them to put them back on and they did. Here again I think there will be some people trying their best to follow the rules but if they find an out of the way bench or table with no one around to take a quick break, there is very little danger. The designated rest areas aren't exactly everywhere. Maybe they should add more?

Third, I also experienced the distancing issues in the queues but I will also admit that I myself was a "violator". This is new for everyone and sometimes you just don't realize that there isn't a "Stop Here" space where you thought there was. Now you're stuck too close to someone and can't go back because there are now people at your previous spot too. In my experience this weekend this is just something that is going to happen even if people are trying their best. 100% of the time I saw this (or did this myself) everyone seemed embarrassed they made that mistake.

Lastly, no matter if its walking around the park in the crowds or trying to exit a queue there are doing to be brief moments of passing "too close" to another group. I don't really think there is much Disney can do here. It's human nature on how we are used to navigating spaces that would take longer to break than this pandemic will last. And that's why we have the masks... for the brief moments that you can't be more than 6 feet from someone.

In short... if you expect perfection you are never going to get it. But I was very impressed this weekend at DHS, MK, and AK at how everyone (Disney and guests) were behaving as best as they could.

The slight hiccups in the queues are pretty comical. You can tell most people are trying their best but there’s been some moments where people go too far and then are stuck in “no mans land” between markers. It definitely takes some getting used to, and even scoping out several markers in front of you seems helpful to tell when you may need to start holding up if the line moves quicker and then comes to a stop. If anything it keeps the (short) lines entertaining!
