Disneyland Vs. Magic Kingdom

Who hates the Magic Kingdom? I believe that some people simply prefer DL over the MK.

I love the nastalgia of DL compared to MK, but since DL is smaller it tends to get crowded easily. MK has attractions that DL doesn't and DL has some that MK doesn't. That's why they are different in my mind.

-I like Magic Kingdom because it has less attractions than DL in a larger area so it feels more spread out, and also Cinderella Castle is more impressive. However, some aspects of MK feel kind of cheap to me in comparison (Toontown and Fantasyland). Personally, I visited WDW about 25 times before visiting DL once, so I feel much more personal nostalgia at MK.

-I like Disneyland because many of its attractions are superior to MK's (Space, Pirates, Toontown) and because it has unique experiences (Matterhorn, Nemo Subs, Indy). Another comparison is that DL's Rivers of America feels a lot more alive, with New Orleans Square, Frontierland, Critter Country, Pirate's Lair, Fantasmic, running rowboats, etc. However, Disneyland didn't feel as grand as MK and also I was annoyed by how everything feels on top of each other. An obvious positive is that DL is the original park.

I like them both for different reasons. Overall, I would take Walt Disney World Resort over Disneyland Resort because I really love the lakes, the greenery, the hotels, and obviously the four parks. However, I would rather spend a day in Disneyland Park than Magic Kingdom because I find more to do at DL.

exactly. I prefer DL because I feel like Dl vs. MK is quality vs. quantity. I grew up going to DLR all the time. The first time I went to WDW and MK, I about had a heart attack when I saw Small World.... I literally stopped dead in my tracks, and turned to my roommates and said "that's small world.... wait, is that the back side?....you're kidding me" and for the most part, I feel the same about many of the other duplicate attractions (BTMRR being the exception). I feel like DL's attractions, theming, atmosphere, small details, etc. have more quality than MK's..... but I love both!!

I dont think its so much anyone hateing MK I mean how can anyone hate a Disney Park? oh wait theres that one site and one park they rip on ;) :cool:out there...

But I think what it comes down to are the parks that each person grew up with. For me it was DL its my "home" park that dosnt mean I dont like MK though.

Each has its own high and low points per person. Each also has better and worse attractions. Now saying one park is better than the other always comes up but in the end I think it should always be about comparing the 2 to each other. What makes it great are the differences and not when there the same clones of each other. Like how both all Space Mountains around the world are different but can be compared to each other.

I love MK. :D People like Disneyland it's because it's the first one. I don't like DL it is because there is not as much to do compared to MK. When I visited DL for the first time and viewing the castle I said "That's it?" Because of the height of the castle. Also it is very interesting comparing DL and WDW. And most of the rides are exactly the same with DL's and DCA's rides with WDW's rides.

Not to attack you, but I disagree with much of this. First, I don't prefer Disneyland because it was the first one. I prefer it because of the feeling I get when I go there. I love both Parks, but if you were to ask me to choose, it would be Disneyland every time. I also find that overall the attractions at Disneyland are better developed and themed.
Next, there is MORE to do at Disneyland than The Magic Kingdom. It has more attractions in less space. There are a little over 50 attractions in Disneyland, while only a little over 40 in the Magic Kingdom.
As for Castle size, I always find that a silly basis of comparison. Why, if something is smaller, is it not as good as something bigger? Recall, if you will, what Yoda once said about size. Disneyland's Castle is appropriate for the Park - a more intimate setting than the sprawling Magic Kingdom. I personally find Sleeping Beauty Castle very awe-inspiring and not at all dinky.
As far as comparing attractions, I think there are a good many differences between most of them. While attractions like Dumbo, It's Tough to be a Bug, Muppet-Vision, and Haunted Mansion are similiar, there are huge variations in other "clones" - Splash Mountain and Snow White are vastly better at The Magic Kingdom, while Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean and Space Mountain are astonishingly more enjoyable than the Magic Kingdom's.
Each Park has its own plusses and minuses, but they are ultimately distinct and different entities. I like Cinderella's Castle, but I also like Sleeping Beauty Castle. I like Disneyland, but I also like The Magic Kingdom. Now, if we're comparing Walt Disney World to Disneyland Resort, then, sure, I'd take WDW, simply because there is no comparison when you put 4 theme parks and two water parks in Lake Buena Vista up against just two theme parks in Anaheim. But that's an entirely different discussion...

I have never been to DL and I would LOVE to because this is the only place where I can experience the REAL Tikki-Room after the "New Management", which I LOATH, spoiled the one at MK. I only know the MK. But I think I would still prefer the MK even if I knew DL because it seems to me more perfect. Yes DL was first but it was a kind of first try also. And a lot went wrong with the first try. Walt wasn't happy with the development of DL surrounding and planned the "East Coast Project" as a better DL. And that's what it is. The MK is far away from any possible optical intrusions, embedded in a perfect landscaped surrounding and the more elaborate design. I would always prefer MK, even if DL has more attractions.

I love both. The MK is the park of my childhood, the park of my dreams so I prefer it over DL.

A brief list of highly subjective pro's of both:

MK:
-Grander
-The Castle
-Big Thunder
-Liberty Square!
-More secluded, isolated from the rest of the world in so many respects. Escapism is a major part of the Disney experience, so this is important to me. There is less intrusion of the outside world in the MK. There is that whole monorail / ferry ride anticipation. And people in the MK are overwhelmingly on holiday, out of their routine, which adds to the atmosphere

DL
-More charming
-Hugely superior Fantasyland
-Better fans and online communities
-Matterhorn
-More attractions, all those fun B and C tickets

I've never been to DL so I cannot say anything about it. Looking at pictures, the entire resort just seems so small compared to the WDW resort...and I'm talking about what disney offers entirely in both FL and Cali. WDW just has so much more to offer, more resorts to choose from, etc... I know I have never been there before, but I just don't think I could visit DL and feel the same way that I do when Im at wdw..they are both very different parks. The castle at MK is much more enchanting than DL's, eventhough it is the original.

Some of the DL rides I've watched on youtube seem better then those at wdw, and some of the wdw rides seem better than at DL. I like having 4 different parks, and not everything crammed into just 2 parks.

Hammer, nail, head. Bingo.

As an entire resort, WDW wins beyond compare. (Kinda hard to get past that whole "no EPCOT" thing out west ).

But comparing "castle park" to "castle park," DL kicks MK to the curb.

Having said that, do I hate WDW/MK? Absolutely not!

DL Vs MK

Well i never tought i would see this thread come about but it is a good one. i will put this out first i am From PA but did not start going to DW till i was 23 before that i had only been to DL.

i find both parks have its ups and down that where talked about before. my main reason DL is alot better is the fact that Walt walked the streets and had a Major inpact on day to day operations. i love main street in DL better becasue of its quaintness compaired to the big city fee of MK. New orleans Square and adventure land is my favoret areas of the park due to its size and over grown tree's and just feel overall.

i love both parks and both have diffrent appeals MK larger more open spaces but i can realy do MK in a half a day where DL i can get in at 9am and stay till closing. Also i belive that Pirates are much more kick but in DL due to the Blue Byou and the larger waterfalls. but MK Haunted Mansion is now better then DL with the new adds.

Have a Magical Day!:D

The question 'which park is better?' is like asking a mother which of her twins she loves most. It is meaningless and can only create conflict. Asking 'why do people love one and hate the other?' is a better question, and I believe the intent of the OP. There are some places, restaurants, movies, parks, that I prefer, but it does not mean I hate the others. But there are those who say the hate one or the other of the 'castle parks'. If, indeed, hate is the feeling that is brought on by a Disney park, the only reason I can think of is some kind of psychosis that is beyond my ability to diagnose.
