Just as a point of reference for folks, before Covid arrived in March about 525 Floridians dropped dead every single day, as the Sunshine State's share of the 7,800 Americans who drop dead every day. After the last Covid vaccine is administered, 525 Floridians will still drop dead every day.
Death happens. Especially when you are in your 70's and 80's and 90's and living in Del Boca Vista.

Phase 2 was to open bars and restaurants and gyms and theaters and amusement parks to 50%.
Florida's been trying for months to get their stats low enough to go to phase 3, which is virtually everything open completely.

Just to be clear, if we're talking states vs. states, Florida is definitely not the worst example.
Florida ranks 16th in deaths per 1 Million state residents, and has death rates one half to one third of those of the worst states who bungled their Covid response. California is lower than Florida, and mid-pack at 26th in deaths per 1 Million among the fifty states.
From worst to best as of Tuesday, September 22nd....
1. New Jersey 1,823 Covid Deaths Per 1 Million Residents
2. New York 1,706 Covid Deaths Per 1 Million Residents
3. Massachusetts 1,341 Covid Deaths Per 1 Million Residents

Yeah, we've been through this before when you posted the same thing. It doesn't matter the history when trying to decide what to do right now, it matters what's happening now. When we went through this last time, California was in the top ten of states with cases per capita. Since then, CA has gotten a lot better. So, good for you all. Keep doing well.
And yet, not a single confirmed case from Downtown Disney and Disney needs to make it clear not to show up without a reservation.

Well, the death rate per 1 Million residents is a widely used statistic on how to measure the impact on a population.
But do you want to do Confirmed Case Fatality Rate, because that's very interesting too?!? Especially now that the United States is about to cross the 100,000 Million Covid tests completed today (USA! USA!), and we are now conducting almost 1 Million tests per day going forward. I'll also throw in our four example states for ongoing reference...

Well, Florida has tested just over 25% of its state population thus far. But you'd need to assume that all of those positive tests are going to cause the death rate to go upwards, but the death rate in Florida is trending downwards.
The death rate per 1 Million residents is quite telling, isn't it? I mean, this whole mess was to try and save lives, was it not?

I think the Florida vs. New York thing is so interesting because they are closely matched in size of population; New York has 19.5 Million and Florida has 21.5 Million.
As of today, 33,138 New Yorkers have died with Covid, and 13,241 Floridians have died with Covid.
If New York had the same death rate as Florida, only about 12,000 New Yorkers would have died with Covid by now. But if Florida had the same death rate as New York, over 35,000 Floridians would already be dead with Covid.
So tell me why we are bagging on Florida again? I mean, I can make fun of the Sunshine State and how they operate Walt Disney World just as much as the next Disneyland fan, but Covid? There are lots of states with a far more deadly approach to that disease who saw a lot more of their citizens die with it.
And when you consider that Florida has an average age above the US average and notably higher than New York or California, and the vast majority of deaths from Covid are over age 65, that says quite a bit. 80% of Covid related deaths have been over age 65 in the United States. 80%!!
