You can’t make dining reservations for the month of June at resorts or parks, only Disney Springs restaurants showing available for New dining reservations all month...

It could be that Disney has already reached the total number of reservations they can take with limited capacities in June. It does not automatically mean they aren't opening in June. Until Disney actually states an opening date plan it's hard to say.

Or that their bookings haven’t reached the capacity needed to be profitable, and now they are going to push it back.

I wouldn't put as much weight into that. They know it won't be profitable right out of the gate, you have to open up at some point to get profitable down the road.

That’s not exactly what he said.

When they open they will not be profitable

Exactly. Here is his quote:

"All right. Alexia, in terms of how we look at our park reopenings and what hurdle we need to make to have it make sense, we actually look at it as a positive net contribution to overhead and profit. In other words, it's not about breakeven point for profitability necessarily but just making a positive contribution at the net contribution level. "

So what does that mean? Here is a simple (nothing is ever a simple calculation) breakdown

Right now, they are on the very bottom left of that blue line. As long as they can move upwards on the blue line they will consider opening at whatever capacity they can, when they feel it is safe to do so. This is regardless if they can make a profit.

If they move further down the blue line they won't open. If they don't feel it is the right time to open they won't. But if they feel it is safe and it can make them lose less, they will.

I’m also wondering what is up now as it’s interesting that they discontinued the free dining plan offer 3 weeks early. Perhaps they were uneasy with just how many people were committing to a trip so soon? They can control the bookings and capacity but then throw in the locals and a limited capacity gradual opening becomes more and more difficult if your resorts are filled too soon. This is going to be interesting to watch. We are booked the week of June 7th but all along have fully expected to have it cancelled but nothing so far.

One of my questions is how they will do a reservation system with people already booked and have tickets? It seems logical to reach out to those who are booked first and allow them to reserve a day before moving on. But if they are already overbooked at the moment, then some of the current reservations and ticket holders will not be able to make it into the park(s).

I can see a lot of people getting very upset if Disney will be reopening and current reservation holders still can't get in due to changes capacity levels.
