Disney Tried to Hide the Millennium Falcon...

Disney tried to hide the Millennium Falcon with shipping containers — but it's on Google Maps

Haha, oops.

Disney has kept a tight lid on details about all the new "Star Wars" movies — but its strategy has been breached by Google Maps.

The service shows the street views of addresses all across the world via satellite images, which are typically one to three years old.

But Kevin Beaumont found something interesting at Longcross Studios, a film and TV production facility near London, on Google Maps: The Millennium Falcon is on site, or at least near a golf course close by. And it's surrounded by shipping containers, seemingly in an attempt to hide it...

Once again Disney shows how utterly clueless they are WRT tech.

Some military camo netting would have hidden it quite nicely from both ground and casual satellite observers

Yes a pro could still pick it out but this a blind person could see, the containers on the ground are oddly arranged if they had boxed it in with containers in a linear arrangement no one would give it a second look.

ah, c'mon scrooge(s)...
while their wonky, out-in-the-open, half covered with a tarp, yet surrounded by shipping containers in the middle of a field approach may not be 'news', it is lame and funny.
Why would they try and hide a prop in a private shooting complex with no public access? Shipping containers are often used to protect props and set pieces against weather. Specifically lateral winds.

still think it's a half-hearted, slightly askew attempt and that the pics are funny (maybe just because it's the falcon?) - but, point taken, martin

ultimately, i'm just happy it's actually a real prop.

Again, @ford91exploder shows his OCD anti-Disney bias by jumping to criticize something Disney did (actually, LucasFilm) without knowing the full circumstance.

No one should give him the benefit of the doubt in any discussion on these boards. He's here just to try to burn Disney to the ground.

You are a trip,

Disney tried to hide something in the days of google maps, They did so in a manner your average 5 y/o could have done a better job at.

You are aware that GPS coordinates can be pulled from Google Maps. So now Disney is going to have every SW Geek in the area trying to get a selfie with the ship.

Also if you have a good reason Google can make things 'invisible' on google maps. That would have taken a GPS position and a radius that Disney needed to hide. And nobody would be the wiser.

So once again Disney shows they dont get tech at all. And they created a security problem as a result. Sure the ones caught will be trespassed. Thats not gonna stop em from trying.

Because of Idiots like the ones who swam to Discovery Island. Now they know its there they will try to get to it.

Its not like the area has a high voltage fence topped by razor wire.
