Disney tracking your feet?

I didn't read the whole article. Did this say if it was optional or a condition of admittance to the parks? I'm starting to find Disney's quest for customer tracking information is getting to an Orwellian stage.

You should be more worried about the gvt. Nobody forces you to interact with Disney, but we are forced to interact with gvt

And lets keep in mind, Disney is reacting to guests wanting MORE customized "experiences" There is this notion among so many people now that everything must be customized to one's exact tastes and preferences to be enjoyable.

"Balloons, ain't they nice - but CUSTOM balloons with our names on them, delivered exactly when we want them, etc etc, that's what Disney needs to do to make us happy!"

By no means am I saying I like or agree with what Disney is doing or might do with this, just pointing out a lot of this tech and offerings is being driven by demand from guests who continually signal they are willing to pay for it.

Big data gets me so excited.

I'm not thinking about individuals, but more on the herd level.

Tour the park clock-wise or counter-clockwise or random zigzag? Where do they hide in the rain - under the PeopleMover, Stitch, CoP? How do they distribute themselves along the parade route? Where do they watch the fireworks? Which potties have the worst lines?

A guest can opt out of wearing a Magic Band therefore depriving Big Brother the opportunity to gather information. By implementing this new scheme, they can capture anyone using their feet in the park.

The amount of ways to look at the data is amazing. Just wait until they start experimenting on the crowds. If we do A, then we get B. They could determine how to properly control the herd through outside stimuli resulting in predictive behavior.

I'd love to have all of the human location data to play with and construct a realistic version of rollercoaster tycoon :)

Just saw this and wondered how possible this might be soon?
Kind of wild, kind of crazy, kind of creepy...

No big deal here, Retailers have been doing similar things in grocery stores for a long time, One trick is the 'eye tracker' where pinhole cameras are used in shelves to determine where your eyes dwell, And with electronic price tags and on demand printers in some cases will automatically spit out a coupon for the item you are looking at.

This will simply be used to see where shoppers congregate and where they avoid going.

Welcome to Retail 2.0

Who say's I'm comfortable with the technology the government already uses? This is a Disney forum. I don't see how tracking our footsteps is going to get me a personalized balloon any faster.

It will tell Disney precisely WHERE to place the balloon seller for greatest sales volume.

It may tell them where the greatest amount of traffic is at any given time, but traffic does not necessarily translate into how many people want to buy a personalized balloon or any other product for that matter. Until Disney puts in the chip to read your mind, they have no idea who in that crowd wants what.

I didn't say YOU WERE comfortable. Holy cow man.

You don't see how tracking you is going to get you a personalized balloon any faster. Well, you need to read a bit more out in the world about how Disney and other companies have been using data and tracking technology to provide personalized services to their customers, on demand, on schedule, in a manner similar to Just In Time Inventory. Its an enormous business. Whether it pays off or not, I don't know. But there's a lot of money being spent in this area.
