Disney Tokyo Resort and Duffy the Bear???

What is it with Duffy the Bear at Tokyo Disney Resort? There where two stores at Disney Sea selling Duffy the Bear and the day we where there we at the park and could not get into either one of them. We first went at 11:00 AM and told that we needed a reservation to get into line and that all the reservations were already gone for the day. We could come back at 6:00 PM when they open the line for people that did not get reservations. We went back at 5:30 PM and the non-reservation line was already filled with hundreds of people waiting to get into the store. The wait was estimated at over 2 hours. It continued to be that long until we left the park at 9:30 that evening. To say the least we did not get to buy any Duffy the Bear stuff in Tokyo.

Duffy is insanely popular in Tokyo. I just looked at the number of people waiting to get into the store, waiting for the Duffy meet n greet, sitting on benches playing with their Duffy, etc. and thought "Less people fighting me to get on rides". It was seriously crazy, though.

Duffy as a named character originated at Tokyo DisneySEA, a rebranding of the failed Disney Bear concept. A lot of it probably comes from the kawaii culture that is particularly popular amongst young women who have historically been a key segment for attendance and spending at Tokyo Disneyland and then the Tokyo Disney Resort.
