EXCLUSIVE: Disney has closed a deal with Terry Rossio to write the fifth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean. This will be the first one without Ted Elliott, his screenwriting accomplice on the first four pictures. The studio is also making moves to bring back director Rob Marshall for his second voyage on the franchise. This comes as his first effort, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, is moving through post-production for a May 20, 2011 release. I'm told that Johnny Depp has a deal structure to return for a fifth film that will clearly be drawn up for him to reprise Jack Sparrow, though it's too early to consider him locked. The studio and Jerry Bruckheimer are consumed with the fourth installment, but Rossio's deal is done.

What's wrong with the Pirates movies? I love them, but then again I like action and fantastical type stories. I loved the old "Treasure Island" movie as well, so I guess I'm a pirate-a-haulic. Just kidding. But seriously, the stories give you a little history mixed in with the high-jinx and are very entertaining. And Jeffrey Rush is perfect as Capt. Barbosa, as were the rest of the cast. My only criticism is that of Calypso. I couldn't understand a lot of what she was saying, even though she played the part very well.

This has gotten ridiculous. How many Pirates films must there be? Is Disney trying to match Stallone's Rocky franchise?
To a point I agree but as long as the stories are good I wont mind it. Im very excited about 4 and hope it ends up being as good as the trailer looks. If it ends up jumping the proverbial shark then please just end it.

Call me insane, but I want them to go off the deep end and give it to JJ Abrams or Tarantino or something for a next installment. Just go for broke and do something different.
