Disney Theatrical Productions today announced their partnership with The Broadway League and NYC & Company to offer 2-for-1 tickets to its signature blockbuster musicals, The Lion King and Mary Poppins, for the first ever "Broadway Week" taking place from January 24 - February 10, 2011.
The inaugural winter marketing campaign coincides with "NYC Restaurant Week" and "Kids' Night on Broadway" as well as other initiatives from theatrical trade association and New York City's official tourism organization. "Broadway Week" is designed to encourage New Yorkers and tourists alike to visit Broadway - whether their first time or their tenth - and take advantage of significant savings on Disney on Broadway show tickets.
THE LION KING continues to reign as one of the most popular shows around the world. The global phenomenon can currently be seen on Broadway, on stages across North America and in Las Vegas, London, Hamburg, Tokyo and in March 2011, a new production will bow in Singapore. Globally, 17 productions of THE LION KING have been seen by more than 54 million people, and grossed over $4.2 billion to date. Now in its 14th year, THE LION KING is the seventh longest-running musical in Broadway history and one of only five productions in theatre history to play for ten years or more both on Broadway and in the West End.
With four productions currently running on three continents, MARY POPPINS is one of the biggest stage musical successes to emerge from London or New York in recent years. Worldwide to date, the show has grossed over $457 million and welcomed 6.4 million guests. The musical is the winner of 24 major theatre awards around the globe, including Tony®, Olivier and Evening Standard awards.
