Goodbye MGM, I have so many great memories in the park under your name! Don't feel like any of this was your fault. Let's blame Sounds Dangerous and move on OK? I will probably always call the park MGM. Here's wishing for really good things.

Um, it kills me to say it, but 10 years ago I would have been hopeful. Today, I'm guessing very little actual physical 3-dimensional sets involved.

I don't think Disney is dropping the MGM name because MGM is failing as a movie company. I think I read on these boards that MGM is actually building their own theme park, kind of like Universal did. Also I think at the launch of the park Disney needed a big movie company name to help build the park, because at the time Disney films were primarily animated movies and older family movies. But now Disney has Pirates, Pixar, Narnia...etc. to allow them to continue to have a park dedicated to the movies under only the Disney name.

I also think it was just time to move on. The original contract was only a 5 year or 10 year deal. I forget which, and they always talked and dallied about options at renewal.

I hope someone will post a picture of the front entrance when they change that to the new Logo. Plus I will pay someone if they will send me the first pin with the new logo on it as soon as it arrive in the park. Went to Disney december 1-8 and could not find any MGM or hat logo pins.

The third film wasnt that great. it wasnt bad but it wasnt great either just kinda ok. But I think the 3rd came out before MGM acquired the rights to the franchise.

The new Terminator series is focused mainly on the wars going on in the future and it will flesh out alot of the resistance charecters like Kyle Reese, John Connor, and some new charecters as well.

I think it would be better to put Animation Courtyard or Toon Studos or something because I thought it was always pointless to have the MGM logo up there when one that area you walked through was not themed for that and that it made it look like it was the enterence to something. Keep the park logo on the outside by the enterence and parking... I just always thought it was pointless :shrug:

In October, I bought two MGM ornaments and one of those cheap backpack-type things, just to ensure I had something with the old logo on it...then I forgot I had two of those pins they were offering for $1 when you spent like $30 on pins or whatever (thanks to my mom's egregious pin spending :)). Nice to have a fond memento, I guess :D

they painted the arch... no sign of mgm or the parts of the old sign on it exctpt for 2 pipes...

they also began painting the water tower... its more white... you can barely see mgm on it from afar.

when I get home I will get the photos up.

A nice touch would be the gold-leaf mugs of several famous Disney characters on the flanks of the arch, ala the movie-stars in the same position when MGM first opened. :)
