Disney Genie/Genie+ On Their Way to Anaheim

They were also significantly limiting how many guests would be allowed in the Parks, which also means lines were short already, so its not quite the same.

The closest I've seen it to having a full park and no FP is when the app/FP had an outage for almost a day, this was prior to 2019 if I recall correctly so it was when Max Pass/regular FP was still a thing. And it had negligible positive affect on Standby that day.

So we'll see if whatever this new service, if it gets released, will actually do to the lines. I just don't know if this service if it replaces LL will have the desired affect on Standby that some thinks it will.
I went to AK a few days after the COVID reopening and rode FoP 7 times in a row with no wait and cutting out the queue by being let in right by the exit to outdoors. I don't think the conclusion should be drawn that it was because there was no FP/LL operating!

As a guy who booked a November 2024 trip to DLR about 5 months ago and paid for Genie+ as part of my ticket purchase....any idea how I am affected by this?

I don't think this will effect you beyond the name change. The Premier Pass thing is just a different option that gives you one LL for each ride whenever, whereas with Genie+ you have to schedule still.

This is what I wanted Disneyland to do all along, now remove the base version. If anything offer single ride purchases only, and this. The end.

There’s no way. They priced this Premier version so high because they intend to keep both. If they would have priced it in the $100-$150 range then I could see them getting rid of the base version.

I hope this is the case. I'd rather have this than Genie+, do away with the cheap skip the line options.

If someone wants to pay 400 bucks to skip the line they can go ahead and not slow it down vs the thousands that are buying the 30 dollar service.

If you consider it to be $200 per park, the $400 feels reasonable. I wonder if they decide to split it on a per-park basis as well, but yes, this should be the beginning of the end for Genie+, and a net positive for Disneyland in general if they price it high enough.

In the Parks
No
Perfect for once in a lifetime visitors who want to ride everything.
I was contemplating who this would cater to, but I guess this makes sense. Makes even more sense if they were only going for one day in each park.

I've gone several times on a two-day parkhopper with G+ and was able to ride everything I wanted to ride at both parks, but I guess if it was a once in a lifetime trip you aren't going to know how to navigate the system as well.

I suppose this also would be helpful for those who are willing to pay to not be stressed out about booking LLs and wondering if you are going to get on everything.

Oh well, not for me, and as long as it doesn't greatly affect me as a normal LL user then I'm good.

When I finally go WDW I’ll be loose with the wallet as it’ll be a once or twice in a lifetime trip most likely. So I might splurge on a nicer hotel etc but $400pp per day for a family of four on LL’s is stupid money. That can end up costing 1/3 or more of the trip if you do it everyday. Now if it was included with a Deluxe stay that would be something that incentivized me. Even if it wasn’t for everyday of your trip.

In the grand scheme of things, this won't move the needle on LL's impact on standby unless they remove single and multi-pass (which I don't think they intend to remove either). If anything, this feels designed to be a midpoint between LL SP/MP and VIP tours.

I hope they take away the 30 dollar one and opt for this instead, this is how Universal does it and their standby lines are not bogged down because Express has a premium price.

This also doesn't need cell phone reservations.

Perfect for once in a lifetime visitors who want to ride everything.

The question is- does this include Rise and RSR?

I think they'll eventually get rid of one of these depending on popularity. Some of the $400 LL will be quite upset when they get to Rise and the LL is overflowing with people buying the lower tier. How many complaints will it take before they make changes? $400 complaints are much louder and longer.

If Disney can make more money selling about a tenth of the current LL capacity, everyone wins while waiting in line.
