Disney Genie and Genie+ at Walt Disney World

Gets rid of having to play fastest fingers at 7 am which is almost certainly by far the most unpopular part of the system. They’d also necessarily have to let you buy genie in advance so you’d at least know what you were paying.

I don't understand. Even if they allow reservations 7 days in advance, or 1 month in advance, won't there will still be a specific date/time that the reservations will become available? Would you not still have to compete for them with potentially everyone else going to X park on Y day? It could still be better than having to do it on property, but it could very much still be fastest finger.

Unless of course they've reached the pricing level that has reduced the demand enough. Or they plan additional price hikes to Genie+.

You’re going to have to play fast fingers regardless, this just moves the time up. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather worry about that on the day of my park visit, when I’m entirely focused on my vacation, rather than setting a reminder while doing regular life stuff.

I don’t think people remember how frustrating it was booking FP+ in advance. Heaven forbid if you didn’t want to stay in one of Disney’s oversized broom closets, you weren’t getting any of the rides with average wait times longer than 20 minutes. It was Philharmagic, Tea Cups, and Laugh Floor for you!

Yeah that's generally how I remember it too. The only difference might be that, since it's a paid service, there is less competition now?

It might also allow them to charge more for "tiers" of Genie+ that allow availability to open up in specific date windows over a specific time period.

I'm assuming this is allowing people to purchase in advance and select one in advance....... HOWEVER..... this could be a new offering where they sell a package like was rumored before launch. Or perhaps they will just allow for ILL purchases ahead of time. Interesting to see how this plays out.

I’m assuming the price will be higher than day-of Genie+ but will be pleasantly surprised if it is not.

It might be less per day if they're able to lock you down for LOS.

Really? Referring to “grown adults” kind of implies otherwise. But I guess not everyone is sensitive to that sort of comment.
As in "I haven't slept past 7 in a decade, so it's completely foreign to my experience," not "everyone who sleeps past 7 is a child."

And still screw the guest in the process. The circle is complete.

Personally prefer the current system if there is gonna be something to pay for. Personally found it extremely useful and easy to use (though I was extra well prepared).

However going to what is essentially a paid FP+ makes sense considering surveys show guest frustration with the hassles of Genie+ day of. At least then they are guaranteed to get something out of it.
