A new permit filed with the South Florida Water Management District points to a backstage parking lot being built adjacent to Typhoon Lagoon, near 1199 E Buena Vista Drive. The filing covers a gated gravel lot, a new driveway, sidewalk, and stormwater retention features, though Disney has made no public statements about broader plans for the park.

What's also interesting is Typhoon Lagoon is closing in September this year, not Blizzard Beach so that would line up for new addition if something is announced at D23 on August.

This would be a blog post, not an announcement at D23.
A new attraction wouldn't be an announcement? I could see it be announced especially if it has an IP tie in which outside of Frozen at Blizzard Beach I am surprised we haven't seen yet. A new slide with character projections similar to DCL?

A new slide at BB isn't moving the needle for anyone. It would be akin to announcing a new restaurant in WS.

I cant see anyone getting excited about a new ride. Or even 5 new rides at BB or TL. They both need WAY more than slapping a few rides in to fix them. Personally I'd rather they flatten one, build a brand new water park that's bigger, and then once that opens close the old one and build something else there...perhaps a nice DVC resort that looks almost identical to a generic Marriott but costs 4x as much, you know, something fun we'd all love.

Could this also be related to (possibly) extensive work needed for the ongoing issues with Mount Mayday? Mayday Falls faced frequent downtimes last year and I believe it has been closed all year this year. Additionally, a lot of the waterfalls and other water features are frequently not in operation. Or perhaps just general infrastructure improvements?

Would love a new attraction or area to the park though, just unsure!

Of the two water parks, Typhoon Lagoon is definitely the one that gets the most updates. They've added two new slides since it opened (Crush 'n' Gusher and Miss Adventure Falls) and more seating area where the snorkeling lagoon was. Blizzard Beach hasn't seen an update since 1995 except for the Frozen overlay of Tike's Peak

Perhaps it has something to do with those H20 Glow Parties? Our group loved the experience, and they seem pretty popular online. Being able to sell the park out 2x a day during peak months warrants more of an investment.

Honestly it's one place I wouldn't mind Disney just doing what they've done at the other parks. Why not add a signature Moana log flume/water coaster type ride with elements similar to Miss Adventure Falls and Crush and Gusher, then create hype around it by adding an individual lightning lane tier, makes the ride longer and strums up more demand. Suddenly water park is selling out more, demand up for H20 Glow. Copy + Paste with Frozen at Blizzard beach in a few years.

Not that I am crazy about all that but honestly think it's the only way we would see meaningful upgrades to the water parks going forward.

How many people are going to spend money on LL at a water park?

(Just waiting for someone to bring up Express Pass at Volcano Bay. Except that's a different system entirely)
They have tested Fastpass at the waterparks before (notably Blizzard Beach), but I don’t know as though there would be enough demand the majority of the year to justify it!

The Frozen addition was unnecessary. The gator area was cute as it was. I love the water parks as is. You just show up and have fun. No lighting lanes, no screens, little to no IP, no nothing. It’s just classic and charming. Not to say they couldn’t add any IP but I just don’t think it’s necessary.

It’s one of the only things left at WDW where it’s just pure simple fun. That and the mini golf.

The location of the current cast member parking lot does not seem to lend itself to park expansion or guest parking lot expansion. Isn't that location close to one of the spots for a Brightline station? Could this project have something to with that? Clearing space for a Brightline station in the future.

Doubt Brightline has anything to do with this as they are BK and it's not happening
