Does anyone on here collect Disney Dollars before their trip then use them to pay for things while you are there? I am currently collecting them and my husband thinks I am silly.

Last year we would buy them for our 2 kids as their weekly allowance. They loved that we did that and each had about $100 worth of Disney Dollars when we left for vacation. We can not do it this year because our local Disney Store closed :(. But I think it is a great idea. You can buy them has you have the money and by the time you leave you could have a nice amount saved up :)

you can still order them from another disney store and have them sent, or do it through wdw mail order. also you can give them play money, and then when you get there , for every play amount, you get disney dollers. just have them give you the play money, and give the clerk the real money, and then give your kids them. we used that with our little cousins since we had such short time before the trip and we were bus.

i do. when i save money, i put it into my disney fund. right before our trip i go to the disney store and have it exchanged. if i dont have time before a trip, i just exchange it at the world

I don't think that is silly. It is a good idea!

I won some money at the Casino once and I went straight to the Disney Store and bought a gift card. I wanted to use the money for my upcoming trip and the money would've burned a hole through my pocket before my trip came - putting the money on the gift card worked really well for me. It was also so convenient once I got to WDW!

I have about $100 saved already in Disney Dollars and another $100 on a mickey gift card my hubby gave my for my birthday. I think having the Disney dollars is part of the experience. So what if hubby thinks I am silly. I have a couple of Cinderella ones from last year and the rest are all Mickeys for this year. I didnt know they changed the characters on the bills for every year.

Every year, I trade in about $100 for Disney Dollars because its easier to save since you can't spend them anywhere but disney, and it's a lotta fun. This year I wanted to start trading my money in for them and my local disney store is out of them, and they have no clue when they'll be in :(.

They told me I could put it on a gift card instead, does anyone know if the giftcard is good anywhere on WDW property???? I was unsure about it. If the DD don't come in at all, I will get the card, but only if it is good for anywhere in wdw.

The Disney Gift card is just like a credit card, and is taken at all retail locations in WDW. I believe it is also good at all restaurants. Any cast member at the Disney Store should be able to confirm this. Also, take a look at the back of the card before you purchase it; it should say somewhere on there.

Thank you!! I just think DD are more fun than a card. But I'll use anything really. I wonder if I could keep going back to the store to put more money on it too as it gets closer to my trip.

My wife just had me take all our kid's birthday money in to a local Disney store, to change the cash over to Disney dollars so our two daughters can use them to buy things for themselves for our trip this August. I didn't think the request was silly at all and I was happy to do it.

I have used a Disney Gift Card for every trip we have taken.. They are taken everywhere, even the food carts.. They made my life so much easier as I wasn't trying to get out bills and change, I just had to get out a card.. I also think it's a little safer considering you aren't carrying wads of cash around..

I just cleaned out my local Disney store of the remainder of their Disney dollars (a whopping $28 bucks:D). They say that they are expecting more but that they don't know when. Every time I go to the mall I will try and pick up $50 Disney dollars and stash them for our next trip. It works out well for us to do this. When my family asks what I want for Christmas, birthday, etc., I always tell them Disney dollars. :sohappy:

I've never bought Disney dollars (can they be purchased in UK disney stores?), and I personally don't think I would unless and incredibly small amount of money such as $50 cause I don't tend to buy that much on property. I'm 20 so I like to buy clothes and things in Florida (take advantage of the exchange rate) and only by a few wee souvenirs at Disney! Agh I know at the start of the post I said I wouldn't get Disney dollars...now I want some! lol!

Every time we have change in cash I put it in a bank and about every other week we go to the Disney store and cash them in for Disney dollars. After we have over 200$ we start putting them on a Disney gift card. Before long we have a lot of extra money to spend at the parks. Its a great way to save up for a trip.:animwink:

I usually only get a little Disney money when I go to WDW. I find I have a hard time spending it. I have Disney money back to 1992.

Yes, you can. This is how I save my spending money. Once I know for sure we are going, I'll buy a gift card for $20-50 to start, then every couple of weeks, I'll add to it. It's a pretty painless way to get a couple hundred bucks in pocket change, and you can't spend it anywhere else but Disney!!

I haven't done the Dollars on our last trip simply because I wasn't traveling with little kids. This next trip I'll be taking my nephew9 & niece6, so I'll get them some Dollars for fun, but I'll still put the majority of their money on a gift card because it's easier to keep track of.

We get the Disney Dollars for our daughter when we go. She takes her allowance and the change jar and we turn it all into DD. She can spend her money on anything she wants and we just tell her that when the DD run out she is done with buying stuff.
