As someone who has been visiting disney regularly since i was 10 and am now 45 most recently being there in november have to say im so sad that disney is fast becoming the second choice for many kids behind universal and this is only going to be heightened when volcano bay has disney rested on its laurels for too long

Clearly a troll post, but the state of the parks have actually improved over say 6-8 years ago.

Volcano Bay isn't going to draw any considerable amount of extra guests to Uni. Its just a water park, no matter how its marketed.

I agree that Universal has grown more popular, but I don't think Disney has necessarily rested on its laurels recently. While I disagree with the choice to not add a fifth gate, Disney has recently built New Fantasyland, is about to finish Pandora, and will be done with Toy Story Land and Star Wars Experience in the next two years. Their popularity would have increased drastically if they had started these projects at the same time, but obviously they didn't have the money to do multiple jobs of this scale at the same time. So although Disney hasn't expanded the number of parks, they still have a lot of stuff in the works that I believe will re-elevate its position as the best family park in Florida and Eastern USA

I am sorry if my op came across as a troll , as far as im concerned disney can do no wrong and will always be njmber onebut my teen niece and nephew who were with us in november didnt even put a disney park in their top 5 days of the holiday which i find sad but even i can see that any theme park has to evolve to stay at the top and lets face it the disney parks have not evolved much space mountain is still my personal fave but come on its over 40 yrs old, tomorrowland is no longer futuristic in any way what adventure is there in adventureland oh wait there is the swiis family robinson or the queue to nowhere as my nephew called it and as for the fantasyland expansion two good new rides i agree but anyone who says the mine trains are worth the three hour wait regularly seen is deluded

Welcome to the boards! Take some deep breaths...

This forum is *all about* the very things you've mentioned, and you'll find some wonderful and spirited discussions about them. You're understandably upset at the declines you've seen, but dropping in on a forum and declaring your gripes like that is like jumping into a WWE forum and saying "Wrestling is all fake!"

That said, here's my take on teens and Disney: We all go through phases. Even I was "too cool for Disney" for almost a decade starting in my teens. But I came back around, and I love Disney more than ever.

I love Universal, too, and make a point of visiting every other time I'm in Orlando, but other than the amazing Harry Potter themed lands, the sense of wonder and magic is still several levels behind Disney.

still no reason yet for a fifth gate, too many unfinished parks at this point. Fill up, fix, update the park to be named later, epcot, magic kingdom and animal kingdom then maybe. But by that time it will be time to do it again. As much as a new theme or new world would be awesome (IP land, villain land, id say classic Disney (but that should be magic kingdom). They are already spread too thin, and in my opinion have 3 unfinished lands). And magic kingdom needs to be updated and tweaked.

This is pretty normal for teens and young adults who like thrill rides. Universal has a lot more of that than WDW. They cater to the teen and young adult crowd. There's nothing wrong with taking a break from Disney for a bit.

so you went to animal kingdom and not magic kingdom? even epcot or the park to be named later would have been better. Not knocking animal kingdom but due to height you prob couldn't do the best ride Expedition Everest, and its not full of Disney magic as much as the others.... this might have been bad planning if you wanted a Disney experience. Kids=magic kingdom kids at heart=magic kingdom. The rest are nice but Disney is magic kingdom. I can see why she wasn't impressed.

Don't apologize. Anyone posting a less than stellar Disney experience is routinely (and quickly) labeled a troll here.

I think you are sad to see some of the nostalgia from your childhood disappear. Most children would pick Disney over Universal any day of the week. Disney has to change with the times, and even though it is sad to see rides go I have faith that it will turn into something wonderful. I'm sorry you are so miserable, it's probably because you don't go to Disney enough.

I agree with this. We could do so much more with my (then) five year old at Disney than we could at Universal. We actually probably wont go back to Uni until she is closer to 10 and tall enough to ride most of the rides. I can completely understand why teenagers would prefer to ride to rollercoasters at Uni over 7DMT at Magic Kingdom. But for parents of small children, its great to be somewhere that the little ones can ride almost all of the rides. Sorry you were disappointed with your recent trip, but a lousy vacation is better than an average day at home :)
